Can I paint you a picture?

It's a Tuesday morning. Maybe 8:30. The parking lot at Hive Haus has a few cars in it already. Not a rush, not a crowd. Just a handful of people who had somewhere to be today.

Someone's setting up for a client meeting in one of the private rooms. They brewed coffee at home but there's a fresh pot going anyway and it smells like the kind of morning where things might actually go well.

Down the hall, someone else is deep in their laptop. No interruptions. No kids asking questions. No laundry in the corner of their eye reminding them of everything else that needs to happen today. Just the work, and a space that finally feels like it belongs to them.

At some point two of them end up in the hallway at the same time. They've seen each other before. They start talking. One of them knows someone the other one needs to meet. They exchange numbers. Neither of them planned on that today.

That's Hive Haus. That's what we're building.

Not just square footage. Not just wifi and a conference table. A place where people show up, do serious work, and belong to a community of people who are building something too.

We can't wait to open these doors.
What would your Tuesday morning look like inside a space like this?

Big things are happening for Hive Haus!

Recently, the Watertown City Council backed a grant application supporting the redevelopment of Hive Haus, a future coworking and community hub being created inside the long-vacant former Lakeview Clinic building in Watertown.

This project has always been about more than renovating a building.

It’s about creating a place where ideas can grow.

One thing we’ve learned through this process is that communities grow stronger when people have spaces that support connection, opportunity, and local business growth.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support, encouragement, and belief this community has already shown for Hive Haus.

There’s still a lot of work ahead, but seeing this vision continue moving forward is exciting. And not just for us, but for what this space could become for Watertown as a whole.

If you’d like to read more about the project and grant application, we've linked the article in The Herald.

We've been in the weeds of construction for a while now, and sometimes it's easy to get so focused on the building that you forget to stop and ask the people it's actually for.

So that's what we want to do today.

We're still in the design phase for Hive Haus. Still making decisions that genuinely matter for how this place will feel and function. And we don't want to make those decisions in a vacuum.

So we're asking you directly: if you're a small business owner (or you dream of being one), what would make a rental space actually work for you?

Not just be fine, but really work.

Good wifi is the floor, not the ceiling. Beyond that, is it privacy? A real conference setup? Natural light? A place that doesn't feel like a beige corporate box?

Tell us what matters to you. We'll be reading every single response.
This community is who this is for. Help us get it right.

One thing I’ve learned during this process is that people get really uncomfortable with the “middle.”

The unfinished stage.
The messy stage.
The stage where it doesn’t fully make sense yet.

Right now, Hive Haus is stripped down, dusty, loud, and far from beautiful.
But honestly… I love this part too.

Because every wall coming down is making room for something new.
Every hard decision is shaping the vision.
Every messy step is part of building something meaningful.

I think a lot of life feels like this sometimes.

You can see what something could become… even when it doesn’t look like much yet.
And that’s a really hopeful place to be.

The older I get, the more I realize people are craving places to simply exist without pressure.

A few weeks ago, I was sitting in a local coffee shop watching complete strangers strike up conversations like they’d known each other forever.
One small comment turned into shared business stories, recommendations, ideas, and laughter.

And I remember thinking, we need more of this.
More spaces where people feel connected.
Inspired.
Energized.

I think that’s a big part of why I feel so passionate about creating Hive Haus.
Not just a place to work, but a place people genuinely want to be.

Last October, we took a trip to Salt Lake City to celebrate my daughter’s 10th birthday and we absolutely loved it.

We explored the Salt Flats, had lunch on Main Street in Park City, and even spent time at the Family Search Center digging into our family tree (which was amazing).

But one thing we didn’t expect to stick with us…

While visiting the State Capitol, we learned that Utah is known as the Beehive State. You start to notice it everywhere! On the flag, in buildings, sidewalks, doors.

Why a beehive?

Because it represents:
- hard work
- cooperation
- community

It was originally used as a symbol by pioneers who were building a life together in a challenging environment; people working side by side to create something bigger than themselves.

And that hit home.

At the time, we had already been thinking about what this building could become. What it should stand for. What kind of space our community actually needs.

With our business name, Honeybee Enterprises, it just made sense.

That’s where Hive Haus was born.

The Hive Haus isn’t just a building.
It’s meant to be a space for people who live and work here. People who want to build something. Grow something. Be part of something.

A place that keeps energy in this community year-round.

These custom tiles (made by Green Faerie Designs out of Denton, TX) are something I’m planning to place throughout the building as a small but meaningful reminder of that vision.

Also included are photos from our SLC trip!

Lately, I’ve been talking to a lot of parents who are all saying the same thing.

Summer break is coming… and they’re already stressed!

Because while working from home sounds like the perfect solution when your kids are home. The reality is a little different.
You don’t “need” childcare…
But you also can’t get through a call, finish a task, or focus for more than 10 minutes without an interruption.

It’s this constant push and pull between wanting to be present at home and actually needing space to work.

That’s exactly why having a local co-working space matters.
Somewhere close.
Somewhere flexible.
Somewhere you can go for even just a few hours or a couple days a week to actually focus.

You’re still nearby.
Still available.
Just able to breathe and get your work done.

As summer gets closer, I keep thinking about how valuable something like this could be for so many families in our community.

Would something like this help you during the summer months?

Most “shared workspaces” sound like a good idea… until you’re actually working in one.

Too loud to focus.
Too quiet to collaborate.
Too many people… or not the right setup.

That’s the part no one talks about.

So while this space is being built, we’ve been asking a different question:
What actually makes people want to stay and work somewhere?

Not just tour it. Not just like how it looks.
But use it every day.

That question has shaped more of this project than anything else.
And honestly, it’s harder to get right than it seems.

If you’ve worked in a shared space before, what made it work or not work for you?

Updates on the Hive Haus!

Things are starting to move.

We’re getting the construction schedule in place to re-do the roof, replace doors and windows, and begin the buildout of the office and community room.

Right now, it’s gutted!

This is the part most people don’t see. The in-between. The messy middle before anything starts to look finished.

But this stage matters just as much as the final result. It’s where everything gets set up to come together the right way.

Take a look at where it’s at today!

As this space continues to come together, we keep thinking about the people who will use it:

The small business owner ready for something more consistent.
The creative looking for a space to focus and grow.
The ones building something of their own, right here in the community.

If you’ve been thinking about your next space, but haven’t found the right one yet… this might be worth keeping an eye on. More details soon!

Who do you think would thrive in a space like this?
