The 2020 Un-Fair Horse Show

Dear horse business...as we have talked about both online and in 1:1 conversations we are a resilient bunch. Not only do we prove that with our lifestyle and professional choices every day, but through challenges like COVID. Now comes another...this one close to home for us here in the UnFair horse show family. As you likely heard about on national news our home state of Iowa was hit hard with tornados this weekend. Those tornados destroyed two barns in our closely knit horse business up here...both Greenwood (Rob & Stephanie Kritzler) as well as Menagerie (Erica Jones) barns took direct hits. Both stables have had to relocate to temporary facilities and are sorting through what's left of equipment and their business. Friends and supporters have setup gofundme pages to keep these barns afloat while they regroup. The ask isn't a lot...just help them feed their horses and cover temporary rent arrangements while they get back on their feet. Meaningful support has already been shown...if you have a few bucks to help them get through we know these barns would be grateful. The Un-Fair horse show is not returning for 2021. People and things come along for one of three reasons...a need, a season, or a lifetime.; the Un-Fair horse show filled a need. The Un-Fair horse show will not be back for 2021, not because it wasn't a success or a ton of fun or something that was badly needed in 2020...but because something different is needed now. With COVID easing and most of our horse shows returning to normal Erik & Clif through their businesses and personal positions are going to refocus on rebuilding the core of the Saddlebred & Hackney business that means so much to them. On the radar are more horse show opportunities including old fashioned one day/one night events, expanding the exposure & appeal of the sport to a new generation of participants, and perhaps someday bringing back an even bigger & better Un-Fair as a centerpiece feature of a larger fair and entertainment offering. Stay tuned...keep showing...keep developing great horses...and we'll see you in the arena!

My mom, our spots, and I had such a fun time representing Saddlebred Country Western horses with pairs of Friesians, Morgans, Saddlebreds, and Saddlebred Ranch horses!!! Also, the picture is even more special because my dad is on the rail right next to us!

Thank you for all of your support and questions about the Un-Fair. We are looking at the future trying to decide if the Un-Fair filled a need in a difficult year, or if it is a need that should be filled every year. Either way, your kind words have been great to hear about our little horse show on a stick. As to next year, we will see...
