Mule Day

Mule Day MULE DAY - Washington, Georgia's Southern Heritage Festival
October 10, 2026 / 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
$5 per person, Free Parking So what's Mule Day?

The Mule was the original "tractor" for early American farms. Imagine being without your car; that's how vital the Mule was for early farmers. At one time, Wilkes County was home to over 9000 (yes, nine thousand) mules. Mule Day activities include Plowing Demonstrations, and a Mule Obstacle Challenge. Wait, there's more! Live music, art and craft vendors, demonstrations of blacksmithing, woodworking, soap making and cornhusk weaving. There's a Quilt show at the old schoolhouse, a turpentine still, magic elixirs, food vendors, old tractors, activities for kids, and more. Mule Day - a Southern Heritage Festival, started in 1981 as a fundraiser for the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce. Since then, it has grown into Wilkes County's largest annual festival. We look forward to having you join us for a day of fun at the Callaway Plantation.

๐Ÿด๐Ÿก MULE DAY SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT! ๐Ÿก๐Ÿด

The Washington-Wilkes Washington Wilkes Chamber of Commerce would like to give a BIG thank you to Herbert Homes and CleanSpark for their generous support of the 45th Annual Washington Mule Day!

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘ THANK YOU, HERBERT HOMES โ€” PETTING ZOO SPONSOR!

We are excited to introduce something NEW to Mule Day this year โ€” a Petting Zoo!

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Herbert Homes, families will have another fun experience to enjoy as they spend the day with us at Callaway Plantation. The Petting Zoo will give children an opportunity to get up close with the animals and adds another family-friendly activity to our growing Mule Day lineup.

Herbert Homes has been building homes since 1984 and today builds in Augusta, Thomson and right here in Washington, Georgia, including its Washington Commons community.

We appreciate Herbert Homes for helping us bring something new to this longtime Washington-Wilkes tradition and for investing in an experience we know our younger Mule Day visitors will enjoy!

๐Ÿ›๏ธ THANK YOU, CLEANSPARK โ€” BRICK HOUSE SPONSOR!

CleanSpark is helping us showcase an important piece of Wilkes County history through its sponsorship of the Brick House at Callaway Plantation.

Completed in 1869, the Greek Revival Brick House was built by the Callaway family and served as their home from 1869 until 1910. Its period rooms and furnishings give visitors a glimpse into another era of Wilkes County history.

The Brick House is part of the story visitors can experience at Callaway Plantation and helps preserve the history of the generations of people who lived and worked on this historic property.

โค๏ธ Thank you, Herbert Homes and CleanSpark, for helping us add new experiences, preserve our history and make the 45th Annual Mule Day a special day for our community and visitors!

๐Ÿšœ THANK YOU, PALMER EQUIPMENT โ€” WAGON SPONSOR!

Palmer Equipment is doing more than sponsoring our wagons this year โ€” they're helping keep Mule Day moving!

Palmer Equipment will be bringing tractors to pull our wagons throughout the day, providing transportation for visitors from the parking areas to the Mule Day festivities.

It's a perfect partnership for an event that celebrates our agricultural roots, and we are incredibly grateful to Palmer Equipment for providing the equipment and support needed to make getting to and from the event easier for our visitors.

๐ŸŽป THANK YOU, XFINITY โ€” WEST END STRING BAND SPONSOR!
