She wrote the book on Toni Morrison's editorial genius โ€” literally.

Dana A. Williams is the author of Toni at Random: The Iconic Writer's Legendary Editorship, and she'll be joining the panel conversation on June 20.

An award-winning scholar and the Dean of Arts & Sciences at Howard University, Williams brings extraordinary depth to the story of how Morrison shaped Black publishing.

Did you know?

The word "democracy" never appears in the US Constitution.

Not once.

The founders feared it. They built a republic โ€” deliberately leaving democracy out.

250 years later, we're still fighting to build the thing they were afraid to name.

Did you know?

In 1952, Charlotta Bass became the first Black woman to run for vice president of the United States.

She had spent 40 years before that running a newspaper in Los Angeles โ€” using every edition as a weapon against racism, police brutality, and injustice.

She was 70 years old when she accepted the nomination.

Her acceptance speech: "Win or lose, we win by raising the issues."

We are heartbroken by the passing of Clarence B. Jones โ€” lawyer, speechwriter, and one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s closest advisers. He was 95.

Clarence Jones didn't just witness history. He helped make it. He helped draft the "I Have a Dream" speech.

He smuggled King's handwritten notes out of a Birmingham jail, giving the world the Letter from Birmingham Jail. He helped organize the March on Washington.

We were honored to welcome him to the March On! Festival in 2015, where he inspired everyone in the room with his living testimony of what it means to commit your life to justice. That memory stays with us.

His life is a reminder of why this work matters โ€” and why we march on.

Two Tonis. One enduring friendship. An entire literary movement.

This June 20, March On! brings together a filmmaker, a scholar, and a moderator to explore how Bambara and Morrison each โ€” in their own way โ€” reshaped what Black storytelling could do.
