Walnut Creek Running Festival

Walnut Creek Running Festival Celebrating 10 years on December 10, 2022. Bring the family. Flat and fast courses for everybody. The start of the 5K & 10K will be at 7:30am. to Treat Blvd.

Runners are encouraged to start making their way to the start line no later than 7:00am. The start line is located at the Civic Park entrance on the road in front of the driveway facing North. 1375 Civic Drive in Walnut Creek. Both courses are loops. Flat, fast and beautiful. The Walnut Creek 5K & 10K will be using the ”B-Tag” timing device that has a chip behind the bib number that runners wear.

On the morning of the event, make sure that you have your Bib on! Athletes will run over timing mats located throughout the race, recording their time as they pass several check points. The race will take runners from Civic Park on city surface streets, heading north across Ygnacio onto Civic rd., which becomes Oak Rd. Runners will turn and run behind Bay Club at Jones road. It is here where the 5K runners will turn back on to the Iron Horse Trail towards the downtown Walnut Creek area and eventual finish line. 10K runners will continue on Jones Rd. running northeast to Bancroft Rd. At Bancroft, runners will turn right towards the Contra Costa Canal Trail System. Runners will then turn and run west off of city streets and on to the trail before heading into Heather Farms Park where they will navigate the course with course markings and volunteers. Runners will enjoy this aspect of the run, which has almost little to no difficulty, but the maneuvering through the park is fun in and of itself. Once out of the park, runners will continue on the Canal Trail before turning left onto the adjoining trail system that the 5K runners were on at the beginning of the race. This final push will take runners south to the park where all runners will finish in Civic Park east, a large grassy area that has been home to the events festival area for the past 10 years. As a note, aid and Refreshment Stations will be all along the course, please refer to the course maps for aid and refreshment stations. Upon crossing the finish line, each finisher will receive a very cool custom die cast finishers medal for their achievement.
