We are excited to host Fishing With Vets this coming July 16th-19th, for a veteran fishing weekend!

Fishing with Vets is the premier Veteran fishing program in Minnesota, known for exceptional events and beautiful locations to take Veterans to fish around the Midwest. ⁠

Similar to Camp Bliss, they started over a decade ago with a simple request from a Veteran looking to get back to a hobby he loved, and 12 years later, they've hosted almost 1,000 Veterans at lakes across the states. We are honored to host them here at Camp Bliss for the first time for a pan fishing weekend at our own Long Lake, and host them at our beautiful Lodge. ⁠

Fishing with Vets is happy to announce another great opportunity for Veterans to get out on the water, meet some new friends, and decompress from every day life. We are headed to a new to us destination this year; Camp Bliss in Walker, MN. Camp Bliss has a lot of great amenities as a home base for us. One of the most stand out accommodations is their fully ADA compliant grounds, from level surfaces throughout the resort, to ramps, wide door frames, and walk in showers. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is hesitant to get out with us because of mobility issues. As always, all amenities will be taken care of. Our fantastic friends from Smoke in the Eye BBQ will be along for this trip whipping up great food all weekend long. All we ask is you provide transportation to and from the event for yourself and have a valid Minnesota fishing license.

July 16th to July 19th are the dates for this event.

We get our communications out as fast as possible. A friendly reminder: we are a 100% volunteer organization and try to get everything done in a timely manner as soon as our schedules allow. We had a great weekend with our Veterans on Leech Lake for the annual fishing tournament! They all got a ton of fishing time, both with our guides on Leech Lake, and at our smaller lakes here around Camp!

And not only did our Vets win prizes for some of the biggest walleye, northerns, and pan fish, but they gained new relationships, had dedicated time to themselves, and got to relax at beautiful Camp Bliss before and after their time on the lake 🥰

Overall, it was a great weekend and we are already planning again for next year!

We were honored to host some participants of Veterans Telling Stories this last weekend to offer a beautiful setting for them to write and collaborate together!

This non-profit started when Iraq Veteran, Paul VanDyke, found writing to be an effective form of healing from his experiences in the battlefield and beyond. He has committed the last 3 years to helping other Veterans do the same through lessons, collaborative groups, and retreats like this!
