It's last day of angling in the 21st annual Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament ...
Today marks the final competition in the 21st annual Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament being held out of Southside Marina in Rudee Inlet.
Of the 70-team fleet, 56 are on the water today - fishing the second out of their allowed 2-of-3 days.
Many of those no longer using a tournament day are fishing in the “Lay Day Tournament.”
Teams are competing for an $810,500 total purse.
Last year Capt. Robbie Brown guided “Just Right” to the title and a tournament-record $463,850. He’s currently in third with one blue marlin and three whites.
Leading the way is End Game with Capt. Barry Daniels with one blue, and four whites on time of catch.
In second is Widespread with Capt. Jay Watson with one blue, three sails and one white.
The teams have caught a total of 97 billfish - 18 blues, three sails and 76 whites in what appears to be the start of the specie’s migration south.
Stay tuned for the final results …
