I haven’t abandoned us! 😂 While I’m gathering background info on what the HS (possibly city) needs and wishes they had that the class of 2000 school gift could help with, what I’m really excited about is YALL’S ideas of what we could gift that would carry our honor for decades to come 😁. Cuz let’s be real. Yes we want to add to the school/future generations, but we equally want to be recognized as the awesome and SUCCESSFUL group that we’ve become! 💪🏻. ...or that’s just me, lol, either way, LEAVE YOUR IDEAS BELOW!! This is the first step, brainstorming phase, so let your ideas run wild! We can edit them to more practicality when that phase rolls around 🥳

I need to ask a friend’s parents if we could use their huge backyard this summer (and maybe even their pool) for our FINALLY Reunion! I would be overjoyed the moment I can announce a time and place. If y’all haven’t given up yet, try to hang in there!

This should not be unexpected for the class of 2000. Did ANYTHING ever go right for us? 🤣. We may have been the class written off by many teachers and administrators because of our diversity, but the word in the hair and nail salons say our class turned out so many successful graduates in career, education, family, AND common sense/morality 😃 so HAHA on them! 🤪lol. I’m still optimistic it will all come together! Bless y’all! Teri

HOWDY, HOWDY, HOWDY, HOOOOOOOOOO friends!!! Traction is getting going on a fun reunion for our class 😁. Thanks for hanging in there with me since this was supposed to have happened already! I want to create a fantastic party for y’all! But laid back because that’s how 2000 rolls!! Stick with the page here a little while longer! 💋 Teri Benedict

Another inquiry: I was pretty involved in planning our Senior to-do’s, but I remember when trying to inquire about what and how we would go about leaving a senior gift to the school I was met with indifference or no one really having an answer. So, does anyone recall if we DID leave a senior gift to the school? I’m thinking I remember hearing of SOMETHING being credited to the class of 2000 either that summer or during the following school year.

I know among those who volunteered to be a part of planning our senior events/activities that someone had a line on having a bronze statue made for the football field??? Back then, last I heard was we were waiting on an estimate.

Anyone have clarifying info they could add?

I inquire because if we DIDN’T end up leaving a gift, would there be any interest in the group to doing so belatedly?

Weird question out of the blue, I apologize if this topic triggers any of my fellow basketball ladies. I’m asking for my own benefit. It was junior high basketball game or tournament (I DON’T think it was high school yet,) but the game was over after dark; we had been warned before we left Venus to travel to this small town in East Texas to stick together in groups and under no circumstances was anyone to go off by themselves because this was a VERY racist town where minorities were harmed, severely bullied, and even ran out of town. Everything seemed to go fine until we returned to the school bus after dark to go home. And a female player in our class (I won’t say who because I remember it being scary for her) found what I remember to be a large knife in her seat? Like tucked down between the seat back and seat bottom crease. You know, where our kids’ Cheese Its and jelly beans end up in our vehicles? Lol.

Does anyone else remember this or something like it that can add or clear up errors I’m recalling? I THINK the town school’s colors were black and yellow? I THINK it was out by Terrel? I know Italy is black and yellow, but I’m pretty positive it was not them.

What was the name of this town??

REQUESTING OPINIONS 👇
Well, 2020 is coming to a close! Hope SOME good things happened this year for each of you! Because of Covid, elections, weather, schedules, money, holidays, traveling, family, and vacations, the odds of us being able to get together in 2020 was just too hectic. SO! I’m amending our reunion for the Spring! I’m thinking late April. Hey, at least in April if we can’t find anything else to talk about we can swap 2020 crazy stories!!!

When I decide to take on a project I want it to exceed all expectations. It hurts my stomach accepting that I won’t be able to go all-out to make it fan-freaking-tastic! Well, I have some fun ideas, but knowing that we were never high maintenance, it’ll be low-key with just good music, food, laughs, and a nostalgia video or so. 😁.

(Opinions on having a bounce house for kiddos and I suppose some adults, lol??)

Update 9/17/20—Whew! Anyone else already exhausted from this CRAZY year, yet?! Hoping everyone is finding a routine for your kids’ learning and your working!

I was thinking before that we’d have 2 opportunities to get together. People could come to the one that works best for their schedule or come to both!

I was holding off on selecting the dates to see how gatherings were going to go.

One reunion will be at a restaurant suggested by Jeff (I believe.) I’ll contact them about using their event section, but possibly if they had access to an outdoor area that would be better for not breathing indoor air. I have ideas for a few decorations.

The second I was thinking would be fun to have at a lake side (suggestions welcome as to best one) where we could open the site up to those who could load up their grills for grilling meats and veggies that everyone would bring, enough for your own families. I could bring a couple games; BYOBeverage, and camping chairs. And even a fire pit to make s’mores! Can’t go to the park for a grill-out if we don’t have s’mores!

We had 81 graduates. I know some have moved away and can’t make it. Hopefully everyone who comes will upload their videos to this page for everyone to enjoy!

Now, if ANYONE possibly has our videotape with all our photos of us growing up that Rachel, Karen, myself, and a couple others put together, I’d LOVE to have it sent in to be put on CD to hand out to each family! In the same line, if anyone has graduation video? I know most of us didn’t have the means for our families to record graduation.

If anyone DOES have any of those VHS’s, I’d be more than happy to pay for the transfer to CD or even made into a digital file we could all access on our devices.

Along the same lines, it would be quite a project, but a very wonderful one, if we all wrote up a little summary of the past 20 years with 5 photos per family that we could make into a video to songs from the 90’s!

If by a miracle we could put the reunion updates with pics on the same digital file/CD as our Senior video, MAN! THAT WOULD BE SO FANTASTIC!!

We weren’t a class that cared too much about fancy things, or had hardly any money to do fancy things, but we were a class of wonderful diversity of personalities, world views, and dreams. We were also a class with great heart to work hard and achieve our dreams. We were mostly underrated by the adults at the time. But look at who we’ve become! I’d like to memorialize our success over the last 20 years.

I’ll post another update when dates are arranged, and y’all get a chance to contact me about having the Senior video and/or graduation video or photos that I could have transferred to digital file/CD’s.

And once I find (suggestions very welcomed) as to the best method of making a new 20 year memorial of our lives to share with everyone, I’ll post here where to send your photos and written statements (and even a short video if you want!) to get those arranged and shareable.

Please, please give me all of your ideas and even concerns to help make this reunion precisely what we would enjoy 😁.

Final note; my highest priority is people feeling safe, and then making it as economically inexpensive as possible. We weren’t into fancy things much anyway, lol.

Stay safe! Love y’all! Teri

Hey y’all! I’m going to be caring for someone as they convalesce, so I’m planning on taking the next steps to organizing the suggestions everyone has made to move this reunion forward. So far, we will have two different dates TBD in order to give y’all scheduling flexibility. Come to one or both. If there are specific people you want to catch up with for sure, then you could discuss with them which of the two dates y’all could both attend.

We had 81 in our graduating class, plus potentially a few who graduated Dec of ‘99 still in our class or Dec ‘00. 6 months before and 6 months after actual graduation day. Want to include as many people as we can. So, go through your contacts again to try and reach the other 40 graduates not part of this page!

I have some decorating ideas (wanting more ideas from y’all), ideas for a playlist (whomever wants to volunteer to take this lead. Thinking just a thumb drive playlist with a good Bluetooth speaker. Depending on location, we may have to keep the volume down. Otherwise, I have 2 5 foot tall big girl speakers we could connect to 😝)

Because of Corona, and the heat, dates in late Oct and 1st or 2nd week in November. Locations looking like a specifically mentioned restaurant good food, little clean up, a/c and the other date a bonfire/cookout with grilling, s’mores and renting a big outdoor video screen with a movie TBD.

Stay tuned. Keep your recommendations coming!

Oh, someone here I remember has a copy of our Senior Video. It was VHS. I can bring the player if someone can bring the video!

Suggestions about how much $ your idea would cost per person? Is anyone amiable to a small token like $20 or less pp in order to have broader options for entertainment or food or activity?

How should we handle refreshments or food? Grilling? Pot Luck? Restaurant? Catering? Etc
