Except nothing here is “just”.
In the Ozarks, it’s easy to see a farm family and not think much about it.
While we do a lot of the typical farm things here, we decided about five years ago to bring a little more magic into our family’s life by adding reindeer.
But it’s not as simple as you might think to start a reindeer farm. Actually, it’s EXTREMELY difficult. 😅
Before we ever brought our first reindeer home, there were years of research and preparation. We had to learn what they need, how to care for them, what makes them different from the other animals we’ve raised, and how to give them the best life possible here in Missouri. It’s a bit of a different environment here than the North Pole 😉
And then we had to learn by doing.
Five years later, what started with two reindeer has grown into something much bigger than we imagined. It’s early mornings, late nights, feeding, cleaning, checking fences, learning, worrying, celebrating new babies and doing the same chores again tomorrow.
And as we love teaching about our farm, educating everyone about raising reindeer became a natural extension of that as well.
Reindeer are incredible animals, and there is so much more to them than most people ever get the chance to know. Being able to welcome people onto our farm, answer their questions and give kids and adults alike the opportunity to learn about these animals up close has become one of our favorite parts of what we do.
And of course, there’s the magic.
Watching a child see a real reindeer for the first time. Welcoming families who come back year after year. Getting to share a little bit of Christmas magic with our community while raising our kids right in the middle of it all.
So yes, we’re “just” a farm family in the Ozarks.
Except nothing here is just anything.
There’s a whole lot of work, education and love behind the magic- and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. In fact, we’ve got a lot of big plans on the way to keep making magic here.
