Recently, 6th graders and their teachers from Middlesex County Public Schools left the classroom and participated in a learning day with Friends of the Rappahannock and Urbanna Museum & Visitors Center. They kayaked the Urbanna Creek observing the oyster reefs and other wildlife and conducted water quality tests. At the museum they learned the history of the land of Urbanna and saw the historic John Mitchell map.

Urbanna and the Middle Peninsula are honorably part of the rich history of the state and country. The early days of the town, the buildings, the artifacts and the people all tie into what makes Urbanna so memorable. Entries should include a nod to Urbanna and signify the places or moments that tie together patriotism and local pride.

We are honored to be supported for another year by Columbia Gas of Virginia! Our marine science legacy program has thrived because of the generous donations and grants by our community partners.

Today, Columbia Gas of Virginia, Inc., in partnership with the NiSource Charitable Foundation, is announcing that multiple Virginia nonprofit organizations have been chosen to receive its 2026 Environmental Action Grant.
