Linemaster Switch Corp. Linemaster Switch Corporation is located in Woodstock, CT and is the leading manufacturer of foot operated controls in the world.

Linemaster Switch Corporation has been designing and manufacturing precision foot controls since 1952. Headquartered in Woodstock, Connecticut, Linemaster has grown into one of the world’s most recognized manufacturers of foot switches used in medical, laboratory, and industrial equipment. From this facility, more than one million switches are manufactured and shipped each year to OEM partners around the world. Linemaster focuses on the design and manufacture of both standard and custom foot control solutions built to meet the specific requirements of original equipment manufacturers. Many applications require precise, hands-free control in environments where reliability, responsiveness, and durability are essential. As customer needs and technology have evolved over time, Linemaster has met the challenge by continuing to expand its engineering capabilities to support a wide range of equipment and applications. Linemaster’s expertise is focused on the medical device industry. Foot controls are commonly integrated into surgical systems, diagnostic imaging equipment, dental units, laboratory instrumentation, and other clinical technologies where consistent hands-free operator control is critical. These environments often require components that are dependable, easy to operate, and designed with safety and cleanability in mind. To support global medical device manufacturers, Linemaster operates under a comprehensive quality and regulatory framework. The company maintains ISO 13485 certification, the internationally recognized quality management system standard for medical device manufacturing. Linemaster foot switches are also designed to meet a variety of global safety and regulatory requirements, including UL, CSA, CE, IEC, FCC, and RoHS compliance, depending on the specific product configuration and application. These certifications support integration into equipment that meets the strictest of international regulatory standards. Linemaster was also the first company to receive FDA 510(K) clearance for a (wireless or wired) foot switch, reflecting an early commitment to supporting medical device manufacturers operating within regulated environments and pushing the envelope of what’s possible. Linemaster continues to expand its portfolio of foot control technologies to support evolving equipment designs. Linemaster offers a wide range of control solutions, including RF wireless foot switch systems, USB-enabled controls, linear Hall effect switches, air-powered switches, electromechanical switches, and variable speed foot controls. Wireless foot switch systems provide equipment manufacturers with a cordless control option that may simplify cleaning procedures and help reduce potential tripping hazards associated with traditional cables. Engineering at Linemaster focuses on developing solutions that align with the operational and regulatory requirements of modern equipment. Foot switch designs often consider factors such as actuation force, electrical configuration, environmental protection, ergonomics, and durability. In medical environments, additional considerations may include patient isolation requirements, electromagnetic compatibility, fluid resistance, cleanability, and compliance with applicable medical safety standards. Continued investment in manufacturing capabilities, automated testing equipment, and facility improvements has strengthened Linemaster’s ability to support OEM partners worldwide. Each product is developed and tested to help ensure consistent performance in environments where dependable operator control is required. While Linemaster has grown significantly since its founding, the company continues to prioritize customer support, product quality, and long-term partnerships with equipment manufacturers. Linemaster’s engineering, manufacturing, and sales team work closely with customers throughout the design and development process to help ensure each solution aligns with the needs of the equipment and its end users. Today, Linemaster foot controls are integrated into equipment used in hospitals, laboratories, and industrial facilities around the world. As technology continues to evolve, Linemaster remains focused on advancing foot control solutions while maintaining the reliability, engineering standards, and manufacturing expertise that have defined the company for more than seventy years.

We are hiring! Linemaster is looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer with 5+ years of experience to own electronics design on custom foot and hand controls, from first concept through production release. Most of the work centers on medical device applications, with a focus on battery-powered and wireless products.

What you'll do
You'll design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for embedded control products, then handle component selection and PCB layout. That includes the low-power and wireless hardware: power management, sensor interfaces, microcontroller circuits, and antenna integration. You'll also lead prototype evaluation, troubleshoot across hardware and firmware, define acceptance criteria with test engineering, and take part in design reviews and FMEAs through design transfer into production. Day to day, you'll work alongside firmware, mechanical, test, and manufacturing engineers.

What we're looking for
Someone with a background in electronic hardware design, including designs taken from concept through production, and a BS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). You should also have practical low-power and wireless design experience and be comfortable troubleshooting hardware with oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and other lab equipment.

Nice to have
Medical device experience is a strong plus, including familiarity with 21 CFR Part 820 (QMSR) and ISO 13485. We'd also like to see experience with Altium Designer, Hall effect and magnetic sensing systems, and Bluetooth Low Energy or Zigbee, along with EMC and wireless compliance testing.

Take away the cable and the signal still has to get from pedal to equipment, intact and to the right receiver. In this ShopTalk, Hailey walks through how a wireless foot switch handles that: encryption, bit strength, and layered encoding built into the hardware.

TGIF, and Happy Foot Switch Friday
These switches are designed to save your life.
That’s the Explosion Proof line, and there are seven differences between the medical and industrial versions.
Start with what they share. Spark proof cast aluminum housing, and a Class I Division 1 rating, which is the strict specification covering locations where a hazardous atmosphere is present and a spark cannot be allowed to happen. Single or twin pedal, integrated carry handle, all momentary.
Here’s the one that surprises people. The medical line is certified for more flammable gas groups than the industrial line. The industrial line goes the other direction and covers combustible dust instead, the hazard you get around grain, coal, and processing operations.
The agency marks split too. The medical line carries both the cULus and CE marks across all four catalog numbers, and the medical 600 series meets IEC 60601-2-2, the standard for high frequency surgical equipment. The industrial line carries cULus only.
From there it’s how they connect, the electrical rating, the guard and the finish, how the twins prevent double actuation, and the circuit options.
