Checking my finally finished rain barrel collection system before dawn. We had a delightful .35” drizzle overnight. The rain barrels collect water from the roof of the greenhouse employing its massive cast iron gutters, channeling water to the inside. I developed a four 50 gal barrel system using products made by Algreen, to include an overflow drain to daylight outside. Now, we can keep 200 gallons of water for the plants and as additional heating (thermal mass) support at all times.

We picked a ‘few’ butternut squash today. These will cure in a sunny place for the next 12 days. This delicious vegetable will last us all winter. It’s always amazing to observe how two seeds can yield such an amazing amount of food. It’s been a good year in the vegetable garden. Hope yours is also doing well!

It’s been very hot today but fortunately things are cooling off. We are having a nice wedding rehearsal dinner presently inside. The family who booked the event decorated beautifully. Things are going well and the catered food smells delicious. Do you have an event coming up that needs the right venue? Get in touch!

It’s a lovely August afternoon at Elmwood. After two inches of rain earlier in the week the trees, shrubs, flowers and grass looks fresh and green. So different than a year ago.

After a few years, the antique greenhouse project is complete. On Monday we’ll begin adding a heating system to keep it warm through the winter. Stay tuned for a more detailed post showing details and shout outs to some of the very talented folks who participated. It’s been a complicated but altogether most enjoyable journey.
