As we’ve been sharing all week, it takes a lot of partners to make BorderLands Gravel happen. We’re excited to have Vantage West CU along for the ride.

This year, Vantage West is providing 465 co-branded reusable swag bags for our racers.

It’s a fitting partnership. Vantage West has deep roots in Arizona and a long history of investing in the people, organizations, and communities that make this state what it is.

That community-minded approach means a lot to us.

When you pick up your race bag this November, know there’s a local Arizona partner behind it helping us create an even better experience for everyone coming to Douglas.

A big thank you to Vantage West Credit Union for supporting BorderLands Gravel and our riders.

On race morning, most of what riders see at BorderLands Gravel is the finished product.

Hundreds of riders roll out of Douglas from Castro Park, along the border wall, and into the wide-open landscape of the Arizona borderlands along the Geronimo Trail Road.

But putting on a gravel race begins long before anyone crosses the starting line. In a rural community like Douglas, it takes a lot to make it happen.

It takes a whole town.

It takes a whole town to put on a gravel race.

When riders visit Douglas in November for BorderLands Gravel, they will see the course, the aid stations, the volunteers, the timing, the vendors, the start/finish area at Castro Park, and everything else that makes race day happen.

What they might not see are all the people behind it.

City staff. County staff. Local businesses. Community partners. Volunteers. Landowners. Agencies. Organizations. People who answer emails, open doors, solve problems, make introductions, provide resources, and believe in what this event can become.

A race like BorderLands Gravel doesn’t simply happen in Douglas.

BorderLands Gravel is built with the support of people and organizations throughout Cochise County, and we’re grateful to have Cochise College as one of our local partners.

This year, Cochise College is helping fuel the adventure by providing Clif Bars for every racer.

It may seem like a small detail, but this is a big deal when you’re putting in miles on remote gravel roads across the Arizona borderlands.

More importantly, we love seeing a local institution step up to support an event that brings riders from across Arizona and beyond to experience Douglas and Cochise County.

Thank you, Cochise College, for supporting our racers and being part of BorderLands Gravel.

Not all gravel is created equal.

Around Douglas, “gravel” can mean fast hardpack one mile, washboard the next, loose rock after that, and increasingly raw primitive road as you push deeper into the borderlands.

Geronimo Trail Road definitely isn’t a manicured gravel path. And that’s part of what makes riding here so good.

BorderLands Gravel doesn’t happen in isolation.

It takes a lot of people, organizations, agencies, businesses, and communities working together to bring a gravel race to this corner of Arizona.

Today, we want to give a special shoutout to our partners at Cochise County - Government.

This race gives us an opportunity to showcase something much bigger than a rad course or a festive finish line. It allows us to introduce riders to the wide-open landscapes, remote gravel roads, history, culture, and communities that make Cochise County such a remarkable place to explore.

We’re proud to have Cochise County as part of what we’re building.

Because ultimately, BorderLands Gravel is about putting this entire corner of Arizona on the gravel map.
