James Hall’s “Paleontology of New York”, published 1847-94.
13 volumes plus a few other, related ones.
An awesome acquisition from an old collection in Germany!
James Hall (1811-1898) was NY’s first State Paleontologist and a key figure in 19th Century paleontology. His famous work contains more than 1000 plates with illustrations. Even the spines and covers are works of art!
Almost impossible to find now.

Picked up this very rare original publication on a recent trip to Germany!
Count Kaspar von Sternberg, “Versuch einer Geognostisch-Botanischen Darstellung der Flora der Vorwelt” (Attempt at a Geognostic-Botanical Depiction of the Flora of the Primordial World),
published in 1820!
Almost impossible to find. Kaspar v. Sternberg (1761-1838) is considered the “Father of Paleobotany”, and this is his main work. It contains descriptions and holotypes of popular genera like Lepidodendron and Calamites and is generally considered to be the beginning of paleobotanical nomenclature. Plates are all hand colored. A great addition to our collection!
