Theme - A Decade of Strawberry Magic

As General Chair of the Troy Strawberry Festival, Tim Lanahan helped lead the 10th Festival.

Despite rain in the forecast and a Saturday shower that paused festivities for about an hour, the festival was well attended and events went on as planned. Tim credited advance planning and organization for helping make the weekend a success.

Theme - Volunteers are the Berries

As General Chair of the 1985 Troy Strawberry Festival, Steve Kalmar brought 2 new experiences to the festival. The Troyathlon, which featured swimming, biking and running, and the festival’s first-ever concert at Troy Memorial Stadium featuring McGuffey Lane, which drew an estimated 4,500 fans!

🍓 Past Chair Spotlight: Earl Burley (1984)

As General Chair of the 1984 Troy Strawberry Festival, Earl Burley led a record-breaking year. This year was the start of the themes for the Troy Strawberry Festival, with Earl's being an Olympic-inspired “Go for the Berries” theme.

Something we even see today, many food vendors in 1984 sold out of product before the end of the festival.

🍓 Past Chair Spotlight: Mal Timm (1983)

As General Chair of the 1983 Troy Strawberry Festival, Mal Timm helped create one of the biggest additions to the Festival - the Manufacturers’ Expo at Hobart Arena. The Expo welcomed thousands of visitors and featured exhibits from Edison State Community College and area chambers of commerce.

We're saddened to learn of the passing of one of our past General Chairs, David Geiger, who served as General Chair in 2011.

We are grateful for his leadership, dedication, and the role he played in the history of the Troy Strawberry Festival.

🍓 Past Chair Spotlight: Max Stubbs (1982)

As General Chair of the 1982 Troy Strawberry Festival, Max Stubbs helped lead a record-setting year! With perfect weather, an estimated 160,000 people made their way to Troy.

The weekend saw 824 entries in the Strawberry Classic, food booths selling out by Sunday afternoon, and plenty of festival fun for the record-breaking crowds.

🍓 Past Chair Spotlight: Charlene Walther (1981)

Charlene Walther faced a weekend of unpredictable Ohio weather. Heavy storms forced thousands of visitors to leave early on Saturday, with three tornadoes even spotted in the surrounding area. But by Sunday, the crowds returned, and Charlene recalled that the levee was “packed shoulder-to-shoulder.”
