The drum carried through the longleaf pines long before visitors reached the arena.

Under clear skies and a steady fall breeze, a large crowd gathered Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10, on the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians’ powwow grounds in Trout for the Tribe’s 16th annual Powwow in the Pines. Dancers, singers and families came from Tribal Nations across the country. They spent two days in the circle with the people of the Jena Band, honoring traditions passed down through generations.

A great time was had at the Powwow in the Pines !! Great jamming to the other drums of Pawnee Yellowhorse & Full Metal Jacket ! & The host drums as well , Buffalo Boys & Ottertrail ! We thank you all for the words of encouragement to us young group of guys just tryna jam on the trail ! & a good thank you to the committee for providing us with some snacks & drinks through the weekend !!

Thank you to our Uncle Leland for wanting to jam with us & keeping us in tact , ahhhh ! Great jams !

And a way bigger thank you again to the committee for letting us go home with some Skulli ! They didn’t let us leave empty handed and we’re so grateful for that !! Sending many blessings to wherever you are ! AHOOOO !!

Another great powwow in the books!!!

Thanks to all the dancers, royalty, host drums, visiting drums and vendors. Without all of you it would not be a success and of course our attendees. Special thanks to all the workers that helped out and to the powwow committee. WE DID IT AND DONE!!!!

Please join us for the 16th Annual Powwow in the Pines, beginning tomorrow, Friday, and continuing through Saturday.

After a week of monitoring the weather and the projected path of Hurricane Isaias, we are grateful to share that the storm will miss us, and we are set to have wonderful weather for the event.

Friday will be sunny with a high near 91°F and a low of 62°F.

Saturday will bring cooler temperatures with a high of 79°F and a low of 58°F under partly cloudy skies, with only a 10% chance of rain and northern winds at 10 to 20 mph. Vendors, please be sure to bring extra stakes to secure your setups.

It is going to be a great weekend to celebrate and powwow together.
