City Opera House is one of seven open Victorian opera houses in Michigan and boasts a rich history as a cornerstone of culture in the Grand Traverse region. Since opening its doors in 1892, this elegant historic theater has hosted everything from plays, concerts and operettas, to gala balls, social functions, community festivals and celebrations. The “Grand Old Lady,” as she is lovingly known, has served as a community gathering space for more than a century. The City Opera House was added to National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Soon after, a committed group of inspired citizens led efforts to faithfully restore this cultural gem to its former grandeur and preserve it for generations to come. Its dramatic barrel vault ceiling, paintings, gold leaf accents and Victorian styling offer residents and visitors a vibrant, one-of-a-kind venue for a diverse array of events. Today, the City Opera House is a non-profit destination attraction for quality arts and cultural entertainment, educational programming, and public and private gatherings. Its versatile design allows the venue to function as a state-of-the-art 700-seat theater while providing the flexibility to clear the main floor of seating for large gatherings. Unparalleled Victorian charm, superior acoustic quality, and an accessible location all add up to a unique public environment in the heart of downtown Traverse City.

Can you believe we're one month away from the 25th Remembrance Ceremony of 9/11? Preparations are well underway and we'd like to offer an update.

Allow us to introduce this year's soloist, Lili Sosa Dunn! Liliana Sosa Dunn is a second year music major at Northwestern Michigan College, where she is studying under the instruction of Dr. Diane M. Clark as a member of NMC’s Chamber Singers. Although she graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 2025, where she was a member of their Vocal Majority and Chorale ensembles, she went to Elk Rapids for most of her education. This is where she would star as the Teen Angel in Grease and Maria in The Sound of Music, as well as participate in the chamber choir and general ensemble.

After she chose to transfer schools, she also performed at the Old Town Playhouse with their Young Company and Mainstage programs appearing as Jane Doe in Ride the Cyclone, Woman #1 in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, and Mary Robert in Sister Act. She has also received first division scores at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival, and worked with Broadway Professionals at Take it From the Top’s one week intensive at the City Opera House.

In the future, Liliana hopes to transfer to a musical theater BFA program.
