🍽️ FREE SOUL OF KANSAS SOUL FOOD DINNER | 4:00–6:00 PM
Come together for food, fellowship, and community at Cushinberry Park, 335 SE 15th St., Topeka. The event is connected with the 2026 Kansas Black Expo and is also seeking donations and volunteers to help invest in our children and build a stronger future. Presented by: Curtis T-Rock Pitts

💜 SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT FASHION SHOW FUNDRAISER | 5:30 PM
📍 The Beacon, 420 SW 9th St., Topeka
Presented by Hearts: Helping Empower Adolescents Reject Thoughts of Su***de, this event uses fashion and voices to bring attention to an important purpose: empowering adolescents, preventing su***de, and building hope. Come support a cause working to make a difference in the lives of young people.

🏈 TOPEKA HIGH TROJANS vs. HIGHLAND PARK SCOTS — THIS IS TOPEKA HISTORY! 🏈

Tonight isn’t just another football game. Two schools. Two proud traditions. One city. The Topeka High Trojans and Highland Park Scots renew a longtime USD 501 rivalry to open the 2026 football season. The matchup is scheduled for tonight at Hummer Sports Park.

🖤💛 TOPEKA HIGH SCHOOL — TROJANS
Topeka High was established in 1871, making its history nearly as old as the state of Kansas itself. Its first classes were held in the building then used by Lincoln College, which became Washburn University. By 1882, Topeka High had graduated its first Black student—an important piece of the school’s long history in this community.

❤️💚 HIGHLAND PARK HIGH SCHOOL — SCOTS
Highland Park’s educational roots reach back even further. The area’s original school district was organized in 1862, and its first stone schoolhouse opened in 1868. Highland Park’s first dedicated high school building opened in 1935, the current high school was completed in 1951, and Highland Park officially became part of Topeka Public Schools in 1959.

And there is some serious history between these football programs. Available historical records show Topeka High and Highland Park played 66 times from 1969 through 2021 before the series went on hiatus. Now they’re bringing it back. Highland Park coach Jermaine Monroe said when Topeka High was presented as a possible opponent, his response was essentially that these two schools have to play each other. Topeka High coach Jason Filbeck pointed out another reason the rivalry matters: many of these players know each other and were friends or classmates in middle school.

Tonight, those histories meet again.

Yuma Street Cultural Festival 2026, presented by the Yuma Street Cultural Center & Entrepreneur Hub and Black Entrepreneurs of the Flint Hills. Come celebrate culture while supporting the people, organizations, and entrepreneurs doing the work in our communities.

Yesterday, For The Culture KS had a great time stopping by the Topeka Food truck Festival at the Gage Park Amphitheater!
It was great seeing the community come together, enjoying good food, good music, and supporting the vendors and entrepreneurs who help make events like this possible.

We believe in showing up and supporting those who show up for our community. Much respect to everyone who helped make the Food Truck Festival a success. Community supporting community—that’s how we grow! 🖤🙌🏾

We had a GREAT time tonight attending the TopCity Riders Inaugural Black Rodeo! What an amazing event filled with culture, community, excitement, and good energy!

🖤FTC KS was out and about today supporting our city! We stopped by the City of Topeka’s National Night Out, where we caught City Manager Perez and WIBW Jovarie Downing showing off their karaoke skills 🎤. We also made our way over to the 785 ShowDown 3rd Annual Car, Truck & Bike Show, supporting another great community event bringing people together.

And you know we had to support the food vendors! We grabbed some pulled pork from “Smoke This” and Dirty Rolls from Carnival Cravings 785—and BOTH delivered! 🔥😋 We’ll definitely be back. Community is more than where you live—it’s where you SHOW UP.

A special THANK YOU to Isabel Huckins, PARS, and Talks for giving For The Culture KS the opportunity to help sponsor the Central Park National Night Out & Back-to-School Block Talk. We were proud to stand alongside so many community partners committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and connected community. We seen the Civic: Topeka/Shawnee County Capital Peace Project’s Street Team Members Courtland Davis passing out Hotdogs, chips, and water.

We also truly enjoyed coming out, spending time with the community, and seeing families, neighbors, organizations, and public servants come together. This is what community looks like—showing up, supporting one another, and doing the work together. FTC’s secretary (Daniellé) was there as well, however she was representing a different organization while volunteering at the raffle ticket booth. 🖤🖤🖤❤️🖤🖤🖤
