One week. Still soaking it all in.
A note from our Race Director, Clint McCormick, on what made this year’s Glass City Marathon unforgettable 👇
April 26th, 2026.
The 49th Mercy Health Glass City Marathon.
My 18th year as race director.
And my 48th birthday.
What a day! In short, two athletes qualified for the Olympic Trials, one set an American record for fastest marathon debut shocking the sport.
My team works for months to prepare for this day; details matter. Orchestrating a perfect start, bike team, course operations, elite fluids, pace team, aid stations, course marshals, cleanup crews, timing team, elite team coordination, expo, and more.
We role play, rehearse, and go through our timelines with purpose. Details matter.
What is little known is a young man that experienced a cardiac arrest immediately after crossing the finish line. Within seconds, chest compressions began from our immediate finish line team. Medical protocols ensued. My team managed runner flow allowing the finishing participants a clean finish, while the medical team worked on this young man reviving him with an AED.
Meanwhile, history is about to be made. Passing mile 25 is our eventual winner. With a radio in my ear giving me the play by play of the lead male, we orchestrated a seamless finish line shift allowing our medical team privacy and access to get our patient loaded into a waiting ambulance.
Mere seconds after this young man is revived, stabilized, and loaded into the ambulance, Vincent Mauri enters the stadium and makes history running a 2:05:53 marathon.
Two incredible performances; both executed with precision.
On this birthday, I am grateful to be part of a team where details matter, and humbled to witness history.
