Happy Friday!

Tonight I’m heading to a bonfire at my parents’ house with cousins, friends and family, and I can’t think of a better way to usher in fall!

Two days ago it was 100° here, and today is the warmest day in the forecast for the next two weeks at only 75°. Fall came crashing in and I am sooooo excited!

I’m ready for a campfire, warm c***r, roasted marshmallows, sweatshirts, good conversation and just relaxing for a while. This is my absolute favorite kind of weather and my favorite time of year hands down.

That’s exactly why I do what I do.

I know how quickly busy season can steal away evenings like this. When you’re juggling sessions, clients, family and everything else that comes with fall, sometimes getting a few hours back is so worth it.

That’s where I come in. I love taking some of that editing load off your plate so you can spend a little more time actually enjoying the season you’re working so hard through.

It’s Wednesday and I feel like we need a midweek check in!

How’s everyone doing? Are we caught up? Drowning in galleries? Avoiding Lightroom altogether today?

What are you guys working on and what are you drinking while you edit? Coffee? Tea? An emotional support Dr. Pepper? 😂
What shows are we watching? I was watching Poldark but I’ve finished it now and need something new to watch.

I know that the last few years of the AI boom have been crazy for photographers.
We went from crazy unrealistic like Will Smith and Spaghetti and thinking "hahahaha this is insane! There's NO way this will ever look realistic." to only a year later ai being way better at creating hands and people going "Oh, huh.... doesn't look AS bad now.."

Then suddenly it's ai programs for photographers to help with culling, editing, creating fake backgrounds, skies etc.

Now we've reached a point where photographers are saying, you know, I'm spending too much time fighting with this thing because it's not getting to where I want it to.... and it's using all of our water, I don't want to use these programs anymore.

I have been getting messages recently with, "I've tried using the AI programs and it's just frustrating me because it's not culling the right images, it's leaving out key points of the wedding."

or "AI leaves black lines and weird spaces all around the people when I edit them with this program."

or "It's just not getting the color right, it's not capturing the emotion of the picture."

Slowly but surely, I've been regaining my business as a retoucher, because people want a human's touch. No matter how advanced electronics get, they aren't able to see with a human's eyes.

They'll discard a highly emotional moment because it wasn't in focus enough. Or they'll make colors too warm, too cool, too smooth. They'll blur stuff in the background, when it was needed for the emotion of the image.

Photography is art. And when we hand every decision over to an algorithm, eventually we start removing the artist from the artistry.

I’ve been editing and retouching photographers’ work for almost two decades, and my goal has never been to make your photos look like mine.

It’s to make them look like yours.

Everyone knows it’s busy season right now and I’m loving it! It’s my favorite time of year. I get to see so many weddings, adorable newborns (did you know today is the most popular birthday?!!), seniors, studio - all of it. And soon it’ll be time for Christmas mini sessions! Can you believe it?

A few months ago I stepped back from editing work, I needed that time to reconfigure and restructure the business so that it made sense to still offer services. I thought that nobody would want a real retoucher with AI being so prevalent and having so many clients turning to ai instead of using a real life person.

But life has a funny way of shifting things, people are starting to get sick of AI and I’ve decided to open my books again just in a more intentional way this time.

I’m taking on a limited number of clients so I can keep things consistent, personal, and high quality. I’m especially looking to work with photographers who have ongoing work or are wanting a long-term editor they can rely on.
