A special note from Rebecca Bracken-Bouch
Dear Tionesta:
People think I am crazy to come up to the Tionesta parade every year. This year, it was actually cut from my budget. I told my students and they were heart broken. But Tionesta paid our transportation fees and we able to come.
Why were my students so upset?
They feel like rock stars at your parade. Your overwhelming kindness and hearts touch us every year. Its just the little "boost" they need to close a long parade season and start the second half of their season: football season.
You comment your gratitude on the streets. They hear it. You stop them when you see their band shirts. They revel in it. They experience community from festival tents, to yard sales to chicken dinners! (OK, so the chicken dinner is my favorite part).
You open the arms of your town to us. Out of all of the competition parades we do all summer, Tionesta is still our favorite. They get back on the bus with stories, show me what unique thing they bought and laughter.
I told the Tionesta Community that prize money was not required, since they paid our transportation. A check was written out to us anyways. That check goes into an account to pay for the t shirts they were wearing and band jackets for kids who are in their third year of marching. Its also used to honor our seniors at the end of our season. We are a small school.... less than 400 students in 7-12 grade. So, it means so much and I thank you!
The generosity of your little town... monetarily, spiritually, emotionally and yes, even physically as you clap for them as they march down the street... is matched by no other community.
And THAT is why Tionesta is our favorite parade. A lot of my band parents even camp regularly at Tionesta now, because they have fallen in love with this festival and this community. I think I have more kids meet us there from camp sites than actually riding the bus! And that increases every year.
Your community is so special. I am sure you all realize that. Thank you for sharing your joy with us each and every year.
Respectfully,
Rebecca Bracken-Bouch, band director of the Purchase Line Marching Band.
