One thing I think people need to hear more often is this. Most people who survive their darkest moment go on to live meaningful lives afterward.
Studies show that over 90% of people who survive an attempt do not later lose their life that way. Many go on to find happiness, purpose, relationships, careers, and hope again. Some even say they are thankful they made it through.
That matters because when someone reaches that place mentally, it feels permanent in the moment. The pain feels overwhelming and the storm feels like it will never clear. But many times, the crisis is temporary, even when it doesn’t feel that way.
That’s why awareness, connection, and resources are so important to me. My goal is not to wait until after someone breaks down. I want to reach people before they act. Before they feel completely alone and believe there’s no way out. Sometimes one conversation, one person listening, or one moment where somebody feels seen again can change the direction of a life.
People need healing and hope more than ever right now. We’ve got to get better at showing up for each other.
