On Saturday, March 9, 2024, The 1894 Grand Opera House will host the 31st Annual Leonora Kempner Thompson Community Enrichment Award. The stage will be built out over the lower section of seating allowing for table seating. If you have never seen the stage built out like this, take a look at the photo below; it’s impressive.
This year, I have been chosen to be the recipient of (crazy, right? - see the list of past recipients - I’m not sure I fit in that list, but I am honored to be included).
We are changing up the format a little this year. My friends Steve Boado, Mike Powell, and Randy S. Hughes with the TX BLUES BROTHER TRIBUTE AND SHOW BAND will perform during the cocktail hour, a fantastic meal from Michelle Beckwith from The San Luis, followed by NICE WORDS about me (I emphasize NICE WORDS, this is not a roast 😜) by Mike Dean (Mr Galveston Entertainment), Ben Raimer (lifelong friend), my sister Kelly Carnes Johns (hopefully she can find nice words to share), and the God Mother of Galveston Gina Spagnola.

This event is a fundraiser for The Grand, so tickets are sold for the event. Please consider supporting The Grand and attend the event. Wear your Blues Brothers outfit, 70’s Disco, or whatever attire that resembles our relationship - lol.

Mardi Gras Season is around the corner and floats are booking up. If you are interested in booking one of the Dancing Queen family of floats, send me a message on Facebook Messenger.

Listed below are some of the parades with availability, total number of riders, and cost per float. All floats will be rented as a whole (no individual rider options at this time). The number is ( ) is the number of riders each float carries. The price listed next to the number of riders is for the entire float. I do not charge for the float usage, only for the beads (at cost) and for the drivers. All beads are included and are not optional.
