It all began with a gospel brunch in the backyard. Then, there were the Woodstock anniversary celebrations. And Halloweens and Vegetarian Thanksgivings and graduation goings on. Somewhere along the way, a low stage was planted in the miniature orange grove, with three moons suspended above and fireflies in mason jars down below. There were Haunted Windchimes and our Fearless Kin, Poorhouse Millionaires and Arkansas Rivers, family dinners at dusk and friends around the fire at midnight. Folks have come and gone over the years, but echoes of the music and laughter and badly harmonized shouts of “good love” will linger on under the chinaberry tree. And so, Orville’s and Minnie’s becomes a fond memory. Perhaps, though, the spirit that made it a magical place will inspire another (stay tuned here, just in case). After all, Orville’s and Minnie’s was simply a place…an excuse to get together. It was the shared love of friends and family and food and music that made it beautiful. Goodnight Tempe, Arizona. You’ve been great!
