Orville's and Minnie's Backyard

Orville's and Minnie's Backyard Intimate backyard setting for acoustic concerts. Orville's and Minnie's grew from our love of American acoustic music of all sorts.

From traditional to modern, the voices of America ring out in amazing variety from the countryside and the cities, the hollers and the bayous, the backwoods and the beaches, and the plains and the hills. And so, we decided to invite some of the finest musicians around into our backyard for an ongoing series of intimate gatherings of friends and family, unique in the Valley. Over the upcoming month

s, we’ll be featuring everything from blues to folk to country to bluegrass to old-time to rock from performers you may not know now, but you’ll never forget once you’ve experienced them here. Please keep in mind that admission and seating are very limited at all shows both as a courtesy to our neighbors and to ensure our guests a personal connection to the performances and performers. Shows are usually held on the weekends and start early, generally around 7:00pm or 8:00pm. Suggested donations for admission will be included in our event listings, and all donations go to the visiting musicians (we do this for love, not money). Feel free to bring your own beverages, adult or otherwise, snacks, or a whole picnic, if you like; we’ll generally have on hand ice and such. All ages are welcome, but parents should consider whether their children are really mature enough to appreciate an evening out like this. Oh, and don’t forget to visit the performers’ merchandise tables to pick up CDs, vinyl, and other items you’ll likely not find anywhere but here. So, join us in the backyard, under the moon and stars, for a magical night of music. We promise you won’t regret it.

It all began with a gospel brunch in the backyard. Then, there were the Woodstock anniversary celebrations. And Halloweens and Vegetarian Thanksgivings and graduation goings on. Somewhere along the way, a low stage was planted in the miniature orange grove, with three moons suspended above and fireflies in mason jars down below. There were Haunted Windchimes and our Fearless Kin, Poorhouse Millionaires and Arkansas Rivers, family dinners at dusk and friends around the fire at midnight. Folks have come and gone over the years, but echoes of the music and laughter and badly harmonized shouts of “good love” will linger on under the chinaberry tree. And so, Orville’s and Minnie’s becomes a fond memory. Perhaps, though, the spirit that made it a magical place will inspire another (stay tuned here, just in case). After all, Orville’s and Minnie’s was simply a place…an excuse to get together. It was the shared love of friends and family and food and music that made it beautiful. Goodnight Tempe, Arizona. You’ve been great!

I may be mistaken, but it appears Mike Clark was our 299th page like! And all I have to say about that is it's about damn time! We've been liking him for quite a long while, now, and he holds the record for the most times performing on our stage by far. So, we were beginning to wonder if we had bad breath, or maybe cooties... :) Thank you, Mike!

Yup, it's Tuesday, and The Haunted Windchimes are on their way, twelve hours cooped-up together in a red van just to see you. So, it's all up to you, now, to make their long haul worthwhile. And it's not a lot of work, either. Just grab a friend, maybe pick up dinner and something to quench your thirst, and come on down for the show of the season. Oh, and you may feel the urge to clap occasionally or get up and dance, both of which are encouraged. See you tonight!

Another winner from The Haunted Windchimes! This is off their "Honey Moonshine" album, appropriately enough, and features the varied talents of each and every member of the band (as do most of their songs). It was recorded after the sessions where they made their first live album way back in 2010. Their second live album is on its way, but you can see and hear them really live, up close, and in person at Orville's and Minnie's Backyard Tuesday night. It'll be like takin' your rekkit player out in the yard and inviting all your friends over for a listen, except that you won't have to clean up, and the 'Chimes won't skip when folks get up to dance. Check out our event listing for all the details.

This is an exclusive video recording of Honey Moonshine, the title track off the upcoming release by The Haunted Windchimes. This performance was tapped on J...
