🎸✨ Today, we celebrate the birth of Riley B. King: B.B. King, the legendary King of the Blues: born September 16, 1925, in Itta Bena, Mississippi.

With Lucille in his hands and a lifetime of stories in his soul, B.B. King transformed the blues into a global language of truth, resilience, joy, and love. His music carried the weight of our people’s pain while still making room for celebration, hope, and possibility.

The blues preserved our history: not just in words, but in every bend of a note, every trembling chord, and every soulful cry. B.B. King reminded the world that our stories deserve to be heard, honored, and remembered.

Today, turn up Lucille’s sound and celebrate a legacy that continues to move generations. 🎶💛

URGENT COMMUNITY CALL TO ACTION: VAL VERDE USD
We have received an urgent alert about efforts to remove Superintendent Dr. Amerson and our Assistant Superintendent Nicky Fuller (Member of the Murrieta-Temecula Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.) from district leadership. We are asking community members to show up in support of these Black educational leaders and demand fair treatment, transparency, and decisions that put students first.
We see a disturbing progression connected to the ideological agenda of Project 2025: first, the push to remove culturally informed history from classrooms; next, the removal of Black administrators from leadership. Restrict the history. Remove the leadership. Open the door to political loyalists. That is the pattern we are calling out, and we refuse to be silent.
Our schools belong to the community. They must not become a vehicle for an agenda that puts political control ahead of students.

On September 15, 1963, hate came knocking : and four beautiful girls never came home. 💔

Addie Mae Collins. Cynthia Wesley. Carole Robertson. Carol Denise McNair. Ages 11 to 14. In Sunday school at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, when a bomb planted by the Klan stole their lives.

The terror was meant to break the movement. Instead, it awakened a nation. The grief and outrage became a turning point that helped push the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law.

We say their names. We honor their light. We carry the work they never got to finish. 🕊️

Our history will NOT be erased. Teach it. Share it. Protect it.

On September 14, 1941, about 2,000 Black Washingtonians marched in four simultaneous processions dedicated to Black victims of police violence. ✊🏾

The marchers converged at 10th & U Streets NW to demand accountability and make one truth impossible to ignore: our ancestors stood up against police terror decades ago.

Their courage was collective. Their message was clear. Their movement was rooted in justice, dignity, and the protection of Black lives.

Today, we honor the organizers, families, and freedom fighters who refused to be silent. Their resistance is part of our legacy: and their example reminds us that progress has always required people willing to stand together.

Today, we honor a visionary who helped shape a movement. ✨

Born on September 13, 1885, in Philadelphia, Alain LeRoy Locke became the first African American Rhodes Scholar in 1907. He later earned his PhD from Harvard in 1918 and dedicated his life to uplifting Black creativity, culture, and self-expression.

In 1925, Locke edited The New Negro, a groundbreaking anthology that helped ignite the Harlem Renaissance and introduced the world to the brilliance of Black artists, writers, and thinkers.

Remembered as the “Dean of the Harlem Renaissance,” Locke believed Black art was more than expression: it was liberation. His vision reminds us that culture can be a powerful pathway to pride, possibility, and collective freedom. 🖤✊🏾

Today, we celebrate his legacy and the generations of creators who continue to build boldly in his footsteps.
