You expect big fish at , but this visitor came with a different kind of smile! 😳

An 11½-foot was spotted near the docks at Robbie’s in on October 14. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission ( ) came to help and is relocating the crocodile away from busy waterfront areas for its safety. 💚

🚔💔 FOUR YEARS IN PRISON—BUT A LIFETIME OF CONSEQUENCES FOR THE FLORIDA KEYS DEPUTY WHO LOST HIS LEG WHILE DOING HIS JOB

Four years in prison for a crash that cost a deputy his leg. Do you feel that sentence fits the harm caused? ⚖️

It’s a difficult question when the punishment has an end date, but the injuries do not.

On April 9, 2024, Sheriff’s Deputy Julian Garcia was conducting a traffic stop near mile marker 87 in when Alexandra Marlene Baraga struck his patrol car.

The impact pinned Garcia between two vehicles. Fellow applied tourniquets before flew him to Miami. He survived, but lost a leg. 💔

On October 13, 2026, Baraga, 29, was adjudicated guilty on seven charges and received four years in prison, followed by six years of probation, under a negotiated plea agreement.

Her sentence also includes a three-year license suspension, community service, DUI school and random drug and alcohol testing. Authorities reported her blood alcohol concentration was approximately .268—more than three times Florida’s legal limit.

Here in the , we drive that same highway and pass those same traffic stops. The person beside a patrol car has loved ones expecting him home. 🚔

We cannot speak for Garcia’s family. But surviving a crash doesn’t mean life returns to normal. Permanent injuries reach into everyday routines and plans for the future.

Sheriff’s Office personnel filled the courtroom to support him. Chief Assistant State Attorney Joseph Mansfield said: “Her four years in prison will eventually end. Deputy Garcia’s injuries will not.” 🤝

There’s something every one of us can do before another family faces this.

If you know you’re going out for drinks, arrange your ride before you leave. Use within its Islamorada service area and operating hours, check or availability, call a taxi or choose a sober designated driver. Plan the trip home, too. 📱🚕
