This is a huge problem in aviculture today. The hybridization of species to create different color mutations. The bird on the right is a hybrid between a Alexandrine parakeet X Indian ringneck. The picture on the left is the same bird just generations down the line put with a blue mutation Alexandrine. After this you'll have a lot more birds that are no longer pure and can never obtain purity I don't care how many generations it's bred back. This is a total waste of time and very poor breeding practices.

Anytime you consider buying species like this be careful and take your time. Don't ever go by someone's name because these birds belong to a well known breeder in Europe. He even wrote a book on Asian parakeets condemning these practices but yet keeps them in his collection. If any of you are ever serious about these birds in pure mutations please feel free to ask. We have breeders here in the US doing the same thing selling them for huge amounts of money and in my opinion their worthless. No matter how much they talk the birds will never obtain 100% purity.

A very beautiful dilute plumhead parakeet! These birds are more stunning than the lutino in my opinion.

I just want to share this with everyone so we're all on the same page. As many of you know the importation of exotic birds has been closed for some time now. There is a small list of birds that can still be legally imported but it's not a big selection. The only way to go about bringing in other species is to start a breeding consortium.

There is currently a breeding consortium in place for some of the Asian & Australian parakeet species. There are certain species that you don't see here any longer, and if you do chances are their hybrids. There has been a problem with a group of people bringing in certain birds illegally and selling them to simply make a profit, not for the benefit of the species. I'll list the main birds to look out for below.

1. Pure Twenty-eight parakeets and any mutations
2. Blue bonnet parakeets
3.Port Lincoln parakeets
4.Hooded parakeets
5.Rosella species

Asian species
1. Plumhead parakeets - The only mutations in the US are lutino and a so called dilute. Any other mutations that show up are illegal and have been smuggled. This is a fact, want or need more information contact me and I'll be happy to bring you up to speed. The odds of breeding a mutation from normal colored birds is a once in a lifetime shot, if your lucky. Having several different mutations pop up it doesn't happen.

2. Moustache parakeet mutations are another one their hard at work trying to smuggle in illegally.

The birds mentioned above are not the only birds but a big majority of them that's most commonly illegally bought into the US. Whenever buying any of the mentioned species please do so with caution, check before you buy, it won't cost a penny to ask. The main guy's involved I know for a fact so don't hesitate to ask. It could save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

There is going to be plenty of opportunity to get these birds in the future. The opportunity to obtain them legally without dealing with people that'll get you in trouble. If you see the mentioned birds ask them for proof to see where they came from. If not let us know and we'll take care of it for you. We can and will always be able to produce documentation where our birds come from. If you care or want more information on the subject above please contact me anytime. This is not about trying to get people in trouble but everyone had the same opportunities to do it legally but were to lazy or uninformed to go about doing it the right way. These people are nothing but jealous, petty people that try to circumvent the laws instead of following the rules. Well we're on to them and know who they're.
