This essay contest officially begins Friday, October 30, 2020 and the deadline is extended to Friday, December 18, 2020. The contest is open to 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students who attend public, private or charter schools in the nine (9) counties covered by the North Florida/South Georgia BLACK HISTORY MONTH FESTIVAL™ program. Schools and students must be located in one of the Florida or Georgia counties listed below.

Florida counties: Leon, Wakulla, Gadsden, Jefferson, Madison and Franklin

Georgia counties: Thomas, Grady and Decatur

ENTRY SUBMISSION DEADLINE DATE
This essay contest deadline is extended to Friday, December 18, 2020 at 11:59pm. All submissions MUST be submitted ON-LINE at BlackHistoryAlliance.org. At midnight, December 18, 2020 the submission site will no longer accept any entries.

PRIZES
First-place winners in each grade will receive a cash prize of $100 each.
Second-place winners in each grade will receive a cash prize of $50 each.
Third-place winners in each grade will receive a cash prize of $25 each.

Nicole Everett serving as a “celebrity reader” at Springwood Elementary in Mrs. Hewett’s 2nd grade class for the Black History Month Festival’s (BHMF) 2020 Read In at Leon County Title I Elementary Schools. 2020 Black History Month Festival Tallahassee, Fl

The 2020 Tallahassee Black History Month Festival will be a month long series of Black History events in the Tallahassee Big Bend Area, anchored by featured events and components coordinated by the advisory council. The events will include a Pre-Events Launch Party, a Kickoff Reception, Black History Commemorative Unveiling, the Arthur Andrews Gala, an African-American Read-In, the Tallahassee African Fashion Weekend plus many more events.
