Happy World Milk Day!

Today also kicks off ! Dairy is the largest single segment of New York's ag industry, accounting for nearly 3,000 dairy producers that produce over 16.5 billion pounds of milk annually.

Of course, here at the Fair, milk is a huge deal. Our famous 25-cent Milk Bar, located in the Dairy Products Building, is a fairgoer favorite year after year. Last year, 293,285 cups of perfectly chilled milk were poured at The New York State Milk Bar. Let's see if we can top that this year!

Happy Pride Month! The Great New York State Fair is for everyone, and we work hard to ensure every New Yorker can feel welcomed, celebrated, and represented. This morning, we kicked off celebrations with our annual tradition of raising the Progress Pride Flag at the Fairgrounds, and announced our LGBTQ+ Pride Day programming for Friday, August 28. Tonight, the Fair’s Main Gate and Expo Center will also be one of 16 State landmarks that will illuminate various colors of the Pride flag.

In 2015, The Great New York State Fair became the first state fair in the United States to hold an official Pride Celebration. As we look ahead to this year’s celebration, we are so honored to continue this tradition that highlights the diversity and spirit of our state—bringing people together through inclusion, celebration, and shared experiences! Exciting, sweet additions at the Fairgrounds! The New York State Fair received SIX new apple trees this month! Planted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County, the trees—which come in a mix of New York-native apple varieties—were installed in the Voice of the Farmer Garden (VOFG) located near the Goat, Llama, and Swine Barn on the Fairgrounds. The apple trees join an assortment of other fruits and vegetables in the garden; and to date, over 700 pounds of crop from the VOFG has been donated to food pantries across the City of Syracuse.

CCE expects these new apple trees to begin producing in about three years! We can’t wait for the first harvest!
