Student Spotlight! ☀️
Days Creek Charter Student Exploring the Trades Through Made for Trades
Thor McCoy, a student at Days Creek Charter School, is gaining hands-on experience and practical skills through the Made for Trades program, discovering a growing interest in the construction industry along the way.
Right now, Thor is particularly interested in electrical work 💡 hoping to better understand the basic mechanics behind it. He believes electrical knowledge is becoming a “forgotten skill” and sees value in learning the fundamentals that many people no longer understand.
Through the Made for Trades program, Thor has already begun building a foundation in construction. So far, he has learned basic framing skills, including how doors and windows are framed and how those details come together within a structure.
Looking ahead, Thor hopes to continue expanding his knowledge, especially by learning the basic terminology and key concepts of electrical work.
Thor says his biggest inspiration is his dad, whose example motivates him to work hard and pursue his goals. Outside of school, he enjoys working and staying busy!
When thinking about the future, Thor has a clear goal in mind: to achieve financial freedom within the next ten years.
For other young people considering a career in the trades, Thor has a simple message:
“The next 10 years the trades are blowing up… get on the train.” 🚂
