Registration prices increase on September 15th! For the first time in 21 years, we're combining ALL of our distances on ONE spectacular day - Sunday October 11th!
Want some fun facts?
1.) Scott Jurek and Dean Karnazes ran the marathon in Year #1.
2.) Alanis Morissette ran it in 2009 (4 hours, 17 min).
3.) Beverley Anderson-Abbs ran the marathon in 2009 and 2012, capturing 1st place overall female with almost identical times, but faster by 14 seconds in 2012 and even 4 minutes faster in 2013! With that pattern, she'd be lightning fast in 2026!
5.) The course goes through 2 lighted train tunnels (all races this year).
6.) This is the ONLY race where all participant medals are actual railroad spikes!
7.) The Bizz Johnson Trail was named the Rails to Trails Conservancy's Trail of the Month for August and is in the top ten Rails-to-Trails trails in the United States.

No, it's not going to be this cold for the Bizz Johnson Marathon events, but the trail will still be beautiful!

I was last night years old when I found out that the good folks at the Rails to Trails Conservancy dubbed The Bizz Johnson Trail their trail of the month for August 2026. I've spent many-an-hour walking that beautiful stretch of railroad grade over the years, occasionally with a camera in my hand. If you held me down and made me pick a favorite image I've captured I'd probably have to go with Tunnel to Wonderland which I shot looking west out of the second of the two tunnels heading that direction from the Susanville end of the trail on a crisp November morning a few years back. This image has found its way to a couple walls and the good folks at the Lassen Municipal edition of Ruralite honored me by making it their cover image in January 2024.

I wrote a post on my blog this morning with this and a few more images from the Bizz should anyone feel inclined to stop by. The Rails to Trails folks also posted a great post with some history and details about this wonderful stretch.
