Today we want to highlight one of our Work To Race teams from 2025 and 2026: Huskie MotorSports
The NIU team assisted the Shootout last year with setup tasks in exchange for a reduced competition fee through our Work To Race program. In 2026, despite not competing with a car, the team will be joining us on site again as volunteers to continue to learn and be involved with the program. Shootout organizers are quite fond of the NIU team with their sense of humor, relentless spirit, and incredible ability to use a whole tank of gas while attempting to pass the brakes test.
Work To Race is an equity initiative from the Pittsburgh Shootout to include teams who may not otherwise be able to attend. Often, teams cannot afford to attend the event due to significant budget constraints. The team is invited to be on site early and assists the Shootout with setup related tasks. Students do things such as setup the course, move bike fencing, or unpack our trailer. In exchange, the Shootout reduces their registration fee.
