Today is the day we celebrate the legacy of former Director of Choral Studies, Dr. Peter Bagley on the event of his birthday. Dr. Bagley's impact on the UConn choral program and hundreds of former students is legendary and those students have themselves had a significant impact on the greater choral community. Happy Birthday, Dr. Bagley, and thanks for your many gifts!

Dear friends, I just want to express my unending gratitude to all of you who have given to the Choral Development Fund. So far with the matching grants, we have raised almost $70,000 to support UConn Choirs long into the future. What is amazing is that donations have come from so many alumni, so many parents (past and current), and so many wonderful friends of UConn Choirs including choral directors and friends from around New England and the world. If you did not donate yet and would still like to, the 2:1 match is still on. Every dollar you send will be matched two to one by a generous donor so there is no better time to still make a significant impact. Follow this link to make a difference!

Congratulations to the members of Collegium Musicum, Glee Club, UConntabile, Chamber Singers and Concert Choir for their performance of "Time: A choral collage" on Sunday afternoon!

The concert took the theme of "time" to many places and we are grateful for what every performer brought to the stage and for our whole audience, for coming on the journey with us!

Bravo to all!

Congratulations to UCONN's Kubatana!

Kubatana - meaning ‘unity, community, togetherness’ in Shona - is a vibrant global music and social justice vocal ensemble.

This spring, Assistant Prof. of Musicology Dr. Janie Cole and graduate assistant Dr. Shannon McCalister developed a semester program on the theme of “DISEASE: Sound, Stigma, Salvation".

The program brought together powerful musical stories, songs and readings that explore humanity’s musical responses to disease and pandemics across centuries and cultures, whether mourning, challenging stigma, sharing public health knowledge, and offering hope.

Pictures are from Kubatana's visit to Leeway, the HIV/AIDS residential care home in New Haven, as part of their Activism, Outreach, and Community Engagement (AOCE) mission, and their end-of-semester concert in von der Mehden Recital Hall.

Bravo to all!

This past weekend, 150 UConn Choirs alumni from 2012-2025 joined together for a Reunion to celebrate the retirement of Dr. Jamie Spillane and the creation of the endowed Jamie Spillane Family Choral Development Fund. The alumni gathered Friday and Saturday, rehearsed, ate, laughed and cried with the joy of being together and presented a concert of singer-selected favorites Saturday evening. The crowd quickly rose to their feet numerous times throughout the evening which ended with faculty and alumni being invited to the stage to sing the Alma Mater and Dr. Spillane reciting, "The Parting Glass." A reception followed to kick off the Choral Development Fund which has already gained significant donations that are being matched 2:1 by a generous donor. This was a weekend that will not soon be forgotten by singers and audience alike. "Let me tell you that I love you..." Sing On UConn!

Congratulations to the UConn Festival Chorus on their spring concert, "How to go on"!

After performing Mozart's Requiem in the fall, this program wove together music of composers past and present, each piece offering a fresh lens on how we pursue hope, healing, renewal and resolve. It was a joy to share the stage on Wed. night with student soloists, with Glee Club and UConntabile filling the stage in Von der Mehden Recital Hall. Inspiration all around!

Many thanks to everyone who came to experience this night with us!

The Music Department and the UConn Foundation have graciously paired together to create a choir fund in my name. I took it as my mission to find a donor to endow the fund and, that generous donor has provided funds to match donations 2 to 1. $5.00=$15.00, $25.00=$75.00 etc… If UConn Choirs has been a positive part of your life, might you consider a donation of any size to help secure the future of UConn Choirs? I hope you will donate even a small amount to help tomorrow’s singers at our beloved university. Thanks, Jamie Spillane
If so inclined, please follow this link or use the QR code on the poster to donate.

UConn Kubatana will be performing their Spring 2026 concert on April 24th at 7:30pm in von der Mehden Recital Hall.

DISEASE: Sound, Stigma, Salvation explores humanity’s musical responses to disease and pandemics across centuries and cultures, whether mourning the dead, challenging stigma, sharing public health knowledge, and offering hope. By engaging with key musical repertories and testimony from around the world, we explore how different worldviews shape how disease is perceived and received, and how through music we seek upliftment and salvation for humankind in times of momentous crises and suffering.
