After doing some thinking, I think the best way to provide a field to fill the gap that the Airsoft Den is leaving behind, is to open a private field.
I do not have the knowledge or the time to run a business currently, but I have a long term goal to remedy that in the future.
Here is the short term plan: The old field will be restored to the best possible condition that I and whoever else volunteers can accomplish. Private games will be held there, following a similar schedule to Airsoft Den (1st and 3rd Saturdays in the spring/summer/fall). These events will have very little official staff of any kind, they will be invite only, and there will be no store. However, if we manage to get an average of 30 people every weekend I may consider ordering ammo online and sell for like $1 more just to help cover the costs. We will follow similar rules to Airsoft Den, including minimum engagement distances, chrono limits, and general field rules. There will still be a professional safety briefing and there will be some "refs", although most likely in game refs. First aid will be available onsite as well. I can also provide a battery charging station. These "private" events will be completely free, but because of the way things are going to be ran I'd prefer if we cap the age limit at probably 16 and over. They will be completely "play at your own risk" and there will be a heavy emphasis on "invite only". These games will not be open to the general public, they will not be advertised. We will run these for one year. By the end of it, I hope to have attracted someone who's interested in running a sanctioned field or I will have decided to do it myself.
I'm still spitballing ideas here, so all of this is subject to change at anytime and without notice. I'd like to begin work immediately, but we will wait until the Airsoft Den officially closes its doors on October 19th. Workdays will be scheduled either the following weekend or the first weekend of Novemeber and we will schedule them until the weather forces us to stop.
Spread the word.
