Did you know… over 30% of all discarded waste is actually compostable?!

Here is a way that you and your family can make a DIRECT impact to landfill usage, food waste and green house gas production.

Shore Soils offers easy solutions for composting at home, your buisiness, event, etc!

Our process is simple:
-fill our provided container/s with your organics
-place it on the curb, on your collection day
-we will pick it up, every week!

The best part is no need to separate your organics, we collect everything. From meat and fish to bones and shells. It takes the guess work out of the process and makes it fun for the whole family. Customers are also eligible for 100lbs of compost returned, annually. Commercial customers are eligible for product return, as well, or we will donate your share to local AG or a community garden, in your honor.

We are elated to partner with Chestertown Environment!

This will be a wonderful program to compliment our residential partners and businesses, who already divert their food residuals from the landfill. Don’t worry, if getting to the drop off is a burden, we offer home pick up solutions, as well.

Coming Soon! A drop off site for compost for Chestertown residents will be opening soon at the Semans-Gisworld Center at Center for Environment & Society at Washington College on South Cross Street next to the armory. Shore Soils will pick up the 95 gallon bins each week to take to their commercial composting facility, and in the town will get rich compost back to use on gardens and landscaping. Food waste is a big contributor to landfills and to climate change. This drop off site will be able to accept food scraps including meats and dairy and any items labeled compostable. Also, happy Learn About Composting Day!

Make sure to find your way to Chestertown, this weekend! Stop by and see our friends at Modern Stone Age!!

Make sure to find your way to Chestertown, this weekend! Stop by and see our friends at Modern Stone Age!!

This Saturday, we’re going 100% compostable—and Sandra’s here to show you what that looks like! From cups to containers, every item in her hands is compost-ready thanks to our awesome partnership with Shore Soils and vendors - Green Paper Products and the Webstaurant Store!

We’re incredibly proud of our usual practice of using ceramic plates, glassware, and metal cups, but for this extra busy weekend, we’re shifting to compostables to keep things running smoothly for our team—so we can focus on what matters most: creating delicious food and serving you with a smile (not a mountain of dishes).

Look for the compost bins provided by Shore Soils and toss your items right in. Want to compost at home? Shore Soils offers residential pickup—check it out at shoresoils.com/services.

Thank you for supporting our mission to nourish both people and the planet.

It has been ages since our social media was updated. Thanks for hanging in there with us, 2024 was one heck of a year!

As we have finished reports for composting partners of ours, here are the diversion weights, from last year, that were kept out of landfills… which we are ecstatic about!

Total organics diverted from commercial:
72.3 tons (144,600 lbs)

Total organics diverted from residential:
26.4 tons (52,800 lbs)

We couldn’t be happier with the amount of community engagement that we have seen with our composting programs!

One of our composting partners, Eat Sprout, have a wonderful video graphic story written about them. It highlights their origins, operations and their environmental stewardship. Really showing the circular pattern of regenerative service and sustainability in their business. The video also showcases how we operate and what actually happens to your food residuals after they are collected.

We appreciate all of you, either as a composting partner, a supporter and environmental champion, or as a passer by that wants to learn more and chat! Keep doing what you are doing and let’s make 2025 another leap forward in organic waste reduction.
