At this is what we teach and why we teach it.
1. Swayman is in a full butterfly and has the net covered with the exception of the far top corner. On the shot, he moves and allows the goal along the ice under the pad. we teach goalies to keep the pads down and the ice sealed once you are down and then play the rest with the hands. If the goalie in this situation projects the hands, then the top corner is sealed too.
2. When Swayman decides to slide to the far post, he also turns his head to the right, which completely “blinds” him from the puck. we teach the goalies to still keep looking over the same shoulder when they slide to the far post. This way they can identify a move back to that side. They may make the stuff attempt to the far post “blindly”, but they will already have sealed that post.
No one is perfect, not even NHL goalies, so we are STRIVING for EXCELLENCE!
