Rallying from the 8th starting position to become the 70th driver to capture his first BROLM series win, Layton Sullivan emerged victorious Saturday night at Wythe Raceway earning $5000 for his efforts at the high baked ½ mile facility.
Just as they did last weekend at Cherokee, Sullivan (17.151) and Anthony Sanders (17.282) led their respective groups in qualifying with Sullivan leading the field to the green in the ProFabrication, Inc Quick 8 Dash. The action intensified quickly as Sullivan took the point but a slider from Sanders in Turns 3 & 4 quickly made things interesting! Sullivan returned the favor with a slider of his own as the lead duo entered Turns 1 & 2 but contact with the wall sidelined Sullivan for the remainder of the dash. Sanders would capture the dash win followed by Bryan Mullis, Adam Yarbrough, Dillon Brown, and Travis Steele.
Looking for back-to-back series victories, Anthony Sanders stormed to the lead at the outset of the main event. Sanders may have gained the early advantage with the race lead, but the intensity was just beginning as Mullis closed in to apply pressure to Sanders. Adam Yarbrough and Dillon Brown, another pair of veterans in the series with Wythe Raceway experience, settled in for the event looking to manage their equipment and pick their spot to mount a charge. Mullis drew closer to the lead as he attempted to catch Sanders. His efforts to overtake the leader fell short as contact with the wall ended his night prematurely. Multiple grooves on a transitioning track created numerous opportunities for the drivers. This was evident as Sullivan and Caples Jr began their surge from the 8th and 9th starting positions. As the laps clicked away, the side-by-side battles and sliders for track position intensified. Taking advantage of a restart and utilizing the outside line, Sullivan would surge to the lead and never relinquish it! Caples Jr and Dillon Brown followed Sullivan across the line to join him on the podium in front of an impressive crowd at the Rural Retreat venue.
Sanders Brothers Construction roll call bonuses went to
Dillon Brown $100
Bryan Mullis $50
The BROLM teams get back to action this coming Saturday as we leave the ½ mile at Wythe Raceway and return to the ½ mile in Lancaster, SC. Bryan Mullis picked up the series win back in April, but several teams are eyeing a return to super-fast South Carolina venue. Can Mullis repeat his early season triumph at Lancaster, could we see our 71st first time winner, or will the drivers atop the championship standings recapture some of their early season momentum with a victory? These and many more questions will be answered under the lights on Saturday night!
