Last month, I sat in my living room crying out to the Lord:

“God… is this ministry really making a difference?”

That same afternoon, my phone buzzed.

Cami Crites had just boarded a flight home from the True Girl tour with Yancy when a young woman nearby noticed her Christian book and asked what she did for a living.

“I lead worship for True Girl,” Cami said.

The girl paused.

Then she said:

“I gave my heart to Jesus at an event like that years ago.”

Friends… she was one of the more than 26,000 young people who have made first-time decisions to follow Christ through this ministry.

And she’s still walking with Jesus.

I just sat there in tears.

Because in that moment, God answered my question.

Yes. It matters.

What looks like just another photo from the road… is actually SO much more. 🙌

Road Manager Matt Ames has spent three years on the True Girl Crazy Hair Tour capturing moments of the set, the lights, the people. But this season, he took one picture he calls his all-time favorite. Not because of the lighting or the stage.
But Because of what’s in it.

Look closely and you’ll see our stage manager with her hands 🙌🏻 lifted in worship. Our worship team, Yancey and Cammie, not just leading, but lost in it themselves. And down in the front? Our ticketing specialist, Amy, quietly praying with seven girls who gave their lives to Christ that very night. 🔥

Every single person in that photo doing the exact same thing. Not caring who’s watching. Not caring how they look. Just pouring their hearts out to God. ❤️

If the teaching you’ve heard about purity has left you with more wounds than answers, I want you to hear this: Your pain is real. Your questions matter. And healing IS possible.

The purity movement wasn't all bad…and I think it's important we say that out loud. But here's where we got it wrong—the word purity became synonymous with virginity. And that simply is not biblical.

I’ve been standing on this soap box since the year 2000, trying to help teen girls avoid the pitfall of shame that comes from this terrible conflation. But here we are twenty-six years later, and there are hearts to heal. And now my first readers are moms discipling the next generation.

We have to get this right.

That's why I’m re-releasing my first book, And the Bride Wore White —the one where I originally took this stand. Here’s a snippet:

“The meaning of the word purity in Scripture does not specifically define a condition of s*xuality. Though it does include our s*xual behavior, its meaning in the Bible is broader. Sadly, it got pigeonholed into a term used to describe only singles who are virgins. That’s a terrible use of the word and was a primary reason why I wrote the original version of this book. This chapter was my nonvirgin voice rising up to say, “Only in Christ can we be pure. Someone please stop equating purity with virginity!”

I believe purity is a process. A better way to discuss our s*xual behavior is to describe it as walking in the direction of purity and holiness, not as being pure.”
