See how easy it was for our ancestors to have clothing? 😬

This is a great video! What she didn’t add is that if there’s bad weather and the plant doesn’t grow or the retting process actually rots it instead, there’s no flax to create the linen.
If you watch our demonstrations, you might learn all about this as Hadleigh narrates the history and process.

This breaks my šŸ’”

When you’re involved with a community based event, part of the joy you get is often not only seeing the hard work come to fruition but the people you meet as well.
Jerry of Crandall Creek was one of those people you don’t forget and someone you always looked forward to chatting with again. His band is extremely talented and I met them from hiring them to perform at the Stahlstown Flax Scutching Festival.
Later, Dave and I traveled to Thomas WV, to listen to the band again. We were sitting at a table, at the Purple Fiddle, while the band was setting up. Jerry sat down at our table and we BS’d for well over an hour. We shared all sorts of stories. It was as if the three of us had known each other forever. He and I had long chats on the phone a few times, getting off subject of me arranging their performances at the festival. Unfortunately that opportunity to meetup with Jerry is now gone.
We will continue to follow the band because I’m sure they’ll do a wonderful job continuing his legacy. I hope to have them back again for a third time in the near future but Jerry’s uplifting personality will certainly be missed.

Our condolences to his family, friends and the band.

It is with extremely heavy hearts that we share the news of Jerry Andrews passing. Jerry was not only a loving father and grandfather, but also the founder and heart of Crandall Creek. His passion for songwriting and bluegrass music was evident in everything he did. Over the past ten years, his original songs became a defining part of the band's sound and legacy, touching audiences and listeners far beyond the stage.

Jerry believed deeply in this music, in this band, and in the people who supported it throughout the years. In honor of his memory and the dream he built, Crandall Creek will continue on carrying his music and spirit forward.

We ask that you keep Jerry’s family, friends, and everyone who loved him in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Funeral arrangements and service details will be shared as they become available.

Copied from a post by Crandall Creek band, because we couldn’t have worded it better:

ā€œToday, we celebrate all the incredible mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who fill our lives with love, strength, kindness, and encouragement. Thank you for the sacrifices you make, the memories you create, and the unwavering support you give each and every day. We hope your day is filled with love, laughter, family, and beautiful music.ā€
