FOREVER YOUNG CLUB’S DAYTRIP INTO MISSOURI HISTORY

It was a perfect fall weather day as 20 Forever Young Club members boarded a bus for a daytrip to Greystone Estate northeast of Pevely, MO. This historic home, built in 1867, is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is perched on a bluff with breathtaking views of the Mississippi River. MAC member Jane Piper Gleason hosted the group at her family’s manor, which her parents bought in 1965. The Gothic Revival house is furnished with antiques, everything from a needlepoint loveseat to a massive dining room sideboard. Arched windows, high ceilings and a 17-step staircase immerse you into another era. Box lunches from the MAC were enjoyed on the large stone terrace facing the river. Jackie and FYC President Dale Ruthsatz paved the way for our visit to this site.

Next stop was the Shady Creek Covered Bridge near Hillsboro, one of four left in Missouri. A park ranger provided background on the structure, built to shelter the bridge floor from the elements. The return trip hit a snag shortly after we entered Highway 21. The front right tire blew and shredded. Our skillful MAC Driver Greg steered us safely onto the shoulder and placed flashers behind the bus. Greg called the MAC for roadside assistance and MAC Security Supervisor Fred was dispatched with another bus. After two hours on the side of the road, we returned safely to the West Clubhouse. A beautiful day with a short-term delay was well worth the trip.

A day for the dogs 🐾 Members brought their furry companions to West on Saturday, Oct. 24 for the second annual Doggy Dive! Pups spent the day making friends, enjoying the water, and chowing down on treats prepared by the West culinary team. Thank you to all the members (and dogs) for making this another unforgettable event!
