Did you know there’s a hotline you can call when your bake goes sideways? 🤔

King Arthur King Arthur Baking Company runs the Baker’s Hotline, staffed by real bakers who take calls from home bakers in the middle of kitchen emergencies. Collapsed cakes, dough that won’t rise, a recipe that went wrong halfway through. They’ve heard it all.

Now there’s a film about them, and you’re invited to an exclusive Zoom screening and Q&A!

On Thursday, November 5, join us on Zoom for The Baker’s Hotline, a festival short film (13 minutes) about the team behind those calls and the stories that come along with each kitchen disaster.

Producer and filmmaker Emily Schuman will introduce the film. After the screening, she’ll be joined by Dawn Hope and Laurie Furch, two of the King Arthur hotline bakers featured in it, for a live Q&A.

Ask them about the film, the calls they’ll never forget, and anything else on your baking mind. It’s a rare chance to put your questions directly to the hotline pros, with no hold music.

One of our favorite things about The Bake Fest community is getting to see what people create after we all log off.

Kim has been part of our community for years. She’s attended The Bake Fest, joined us at Whisked Away, and now she’s launched a new business of her own: Sugar’s Recipe Box. Kim at Sugar’s Recipe Box

And I’d really love to see our community support her.

The name comes from Kim’s grandmother, Sugar.

Tucked inside Sugar’s recipe book were handwritten recipes, some more than 100 years old, complete with the stories, memories, and inevitable cooking stains that come with recipes that have actually been loved and used. That collection became the inspiration for Sugar’s Recipe Box.

Every month, subscribers receive an envelope of baking and cooking happy mail with three themed vintage recipes that Kim has tested in her own kitchen, a letter sharing the stories behind the recipes, a collectible baking trading card, a themed sticker, and a little surprise.

It’s such a sweet idea: slow down, try an old recipe, and maybe make a new memory around it.

And Kim created a special offer specifically for The Bake Fest community:

Get 10% off a 6-month subscription with code BAKEFEST

The offer is good through October 31, 2026.

If Sugar’s Recipe Box sounds like something you’d enjoy, or something a baker in your life would appreciate, take a look. I’d love to see us show up for one of our own. 💙

Want to make a showstopper Gingerbread House? Just in time for the holidays, our Build a Better Gingerbread House class is happening tomorrow! 🏠💙🎉

You don’t want to miss this opportunity to learn from Jackelline Jackelinne Bauer who’s featured in this month’s Better Homes and Gardens magazine! 😱

Jackelinne brings an unusually perfect combination of skills to gingerbread house design. With a degree in architecture, experience working in high-end architecture and interior design firms in Austin and Chicago, and formal pastry training from The French Pastry School in Chicago, she understands both how to build a structure that works and how to finish it with the precision, detail, and technique of a trained pastry chef.

In this class, she’ll share five practical ways to elevate your gingerbread houses this season, including:

🏠 How to create a strong, reliable structure

🏠 Two techniques for making realistic edible glass windows
Decorating dos and don’ts that help your house look more polished

🏠 Why icing consistency matters for both construction and decorating

🏠 A simple presentation trick that instantly upgrades the finished house, including how to properly cover your display board

Whether you build gingerbread houses every year or you’re ready to make your first one, you’ll leave with techniques that help your house stand straighter, look cleaner, and feel far more finished.

Join the live online Zoom class on October 20
7:30 - 9 p.m CT

Your $50 ticket includes the live Zoom class and 30-day replay access, so you can revisit the techniques while you build. (Bake Fest 365 members attend free - this class is included in your membership!)
