Not many things take me out my character!!! Today I witnessed something that didn’t sit right with me at all.
A group of kids were at the park, in the boxing ring, just being active, focused, and staying out of trouble. Instead of being supported, they were approached by an adult who began yelling at them, cussing at them, and telling them to “go back where they came from.” She even threatened to call the police on them.
As a Black woman, a mother, and someone who cares deeply about our community, I could not stand by and stay silent.
These are children. Kids who are choosing discipline, fitness, and positivity over the streets. They deserve encouragement—not hostility, not racism, not fear.
We have to do better. ALL of us.
Our communities should be places where every child—no matter their background—feels safe, respected, and supported. What happened today was not okay, and speaking up in moments like that matters.
To those kids: keep going. Don’t let anyone discourage you from doing something positive with your time. You are seen, and you are supported.
And to the adults in our community: let’s lead with respect, not hate.
