Thank you to all who came to the Battle of Crete memorial luncheon on May 24th. It was a wonderful family gathering to honor our ancestors who suffered or died during the occupation. Bravo to Chrisoula Kantos and Kyriakos Varypatakis for their inspirational speeches and Bravo to the Minos-Crete Rizitiko Singers for their emotional heartfelt presentation. Special thanks to Father Dionysios Koulianos and to the chefs and the volunteers. God give rest and comfort to the souls of our ancestors, may their memory be eternal 🙏

SUNDAY MAY 24. Join us for an uplifting memorial to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Crete. It is a beautiful and important tribute to our ancestors who fell in the struggle. We meet at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 9:30 am and sit together under the balcony on the right side of the church. Today we commemorate the N**i invasion of Crete, May 20, 1941. The first 10 days were the heaviest losses the N**is had seen. To add insult to injury, the resistance was mostly civilians. Hi**er was furious. The reprisals were severe. Entire villages were burned and male inhabitants aged 16 to 60 were executed. One source puts the number of Cretans killed by German action during the war at 6,593 men, 1,113 women and 869 children. German records put the number of Cretans executed by firing squad as 4,474. The occupation lasted until November of 1944.
