We’re just ONE WEEK AWAY from a special event happening right here in North Mississippi… 💙🐦

Join us for the North Mississippi Bluebird Symposium, an expert-led discussion focused on supporting one of our most beloved backyard birds — the Eastern Bluebird.

At the North Mississippi Hummingbird Foundation, we are passionate about creating strong habitat for all birds, and bluebirds are an important part of our local ecosystem. Events like this help us continue building a community that supports birds in every season.

This event will take place right here at Snowden Grove, just around the corner from the June Wheeler Memorial Hummingbird Garden.

• How to support successful nesting

The Great Backyard Bird Count starts TODAY! 🐦

Join the global count February 13–16, 2026 and help scientists better understand bird populations and migration patterns—right from your backyard, neighborhood park, or favorite trail.

How to participate:
✔ Watch birds for at least 15 minutes
✔ Count what you see or hear
✔ Submit your observations

Choose the option that works best for you:

🌐 Option 1: Visit birdcount.org
• Follow the steps on the official site to report your sightings

📱 Option 2: Use Merlin Bird ID
• Identify birds by sight or sound using Merlin
• Save your observations and submit them through eBird

📱 Option 3: Use eBird
• Log your checklist in the eBird app or at eBird.org
• Your observations automatically count toward the Great Backyard Bird Count

Whether you count for 15 minutes or all weekend — every bird matters.

Here in North Mississippi, you may see cardinals, chickadees, titmice, goldfinches, woodpeckers, and nuthatches — and before long, we’ll be watching for our hummingbirds to return.

As we look ahead to the North Mississippi Hummingbird Festival, this is a wonderful way for our community to come together and make a real impact for birds.

We’re excited to share an upcoming educational event at Snowden Grove that supports bird conservation in North Mississippi.

First Annual North Mississippi Bluebird Symposium

A community-focused, expert-led symposium on bluebird conservation and nesting season preparation.

This symposium will feature bluebird experts from the Shelby County Bluebird Club and is open to anyone who loves birds and conservation.

At the North Mississippi Hummingbird Foundation, our mission is to support and protect birds across our region. We’re excited to highlight this Bluebird Symposium as part of that shared commitment—bringing education, conservation, and community together at Snowden Grove in support of another beloved bird species.

This program is designed for attendees ages 10 and older.

We’re excited to share a video highlighting Phase 2 of the June Wheeler Memorial Hummingbird Garden. This next phase is just beginning and will nearly double the size of the original garden, including the addition of a new water feature that will create even more habitat for hummingbirds and pollinators.

Thank you to the City of Southaven and Southaven Parks and Recreation for their continued support in bringing this vision to life. This expansion will be a beautiful addition, and we look forward to seeing what spring brings to the June Wheeler Memorial Hummingbird Garden.

While most Ruby-throated Hummingbirds migrate south, some hummingbirds, including Rufous Hummingbirds, do overwinter in North Mississippi. Please remember to keep at least one hummingbird feeder out year-round with fresh nectar.

We’re excited to see this next phase of the garden come to life.
