After closing up at Snowden House, we stopped by the June Wheeler Memorial Hummingbird Garden and found hummingbirds visiting the feeders. You could hear their wings buzzing as they flew through the trees and around the garden.
As you watch this video, you’ll see a hummingbird at one of our feeders. Listen closely, too. In the background, you can hear children playing, swings moving, and families enjoying the park. That is what makes this such a special urban habitat.
The garden is right in the center of town, surrounded by baseball games, people walking, and neighbors enjoying the park. It provides a place where hummingbirds and other pollinators can thrive while our community experiences and appreciates nature as part of everyday life.
The North Mississippi Hummingbird Festival celebrates that connection between nature and community, and the work of growing and caring for the garden continues beyond this weekend.
We’ll be back next year! For tonight, we wanted to share this little moment in the garden and end the weekend with gratitude.
