The moon in motion 🌚 Presence, mystery, and inner strength 🌙
As Coyolxauhqui, the Mexica moon goddess, this role carried a deep and enveloping energy. Each movement reflected a balance between softness and intensity, guiding the story with intention and meaning. Hypnotic and powerful, this performance connected us to something both ancestral and deeply emotional.
Thank you for bringing this role to life with such sensitivity and strength. Olivia is a member of the Conservatory’s teaching staff. After training at SCD for nearly a decade, she fulfilled her dreams of dancing ballet professionally as an artist for Diablo Ballet and New Mexico Ballet Company! She is currently studying at the SRJC with a dream of physical therapy. Her passions also include rollerskating, singing, and finding adventure in the outdoors. Olivia loves the combination of theatrics, storytelling, science, and strength ballet offers. Being of Mexican heritage herself, Por La Luz de la Luna is a very special ballet to her, and she feels that for any dancer of any heritage, being a part of this production is equally magical— like taking a leap backwards in time and history! She is delighted to share such a richly cultural and poignant ballet with her community.
She first performed this role in SCD’s second production of Por la Luz de la Luna in 2017, after a year in Olivia’s dance retirement. Miss Isabel convinced her that she could do it, even though she was only taking a couple of dance classes a week at the time, in college full-time at the SRJC. She shared that dancing this role again felt powerful. “I didn’t have as much time to prepare, but I was blown away by my warriors and their willingness to bring their 200% energy and felt we really connected every time we came together, regardless of the time crunch I felt. I am honored to dance with such an awesome team.”

Como Coyolxauhqui, diosa mexica de la luna, este papel transmitió una energía profunda y envolvente. Cada movimiento reflejaba un equilibrio entre la suavidad y la intensidad, guiando la historia con intención y significado. Hipnótica y poderosa, esta interpretación nos conectó con lo ancestral y lo profundamente emocional, iluminando el escenario con otro tipo de luz.
Gracias por dar vida a este papel con tanta sensibilidad y fuerza. Olivia es parte del equipo docente del Conservatorio. Después de formarse en SCD durante casi una década, cumplió su sueño de bailar ballet profesionalmente como artista con Diablo Ballet y New Mexico Ballet Company. Actualmente estudia en el SRJC con el sueño de dedicarse a la fisioterapia. Le apasionan también el patinaje en ruedas, el canto y las aventuras al aire libre. A Olivia le encanta la combinación de teatralidad, narrativa, ciencia y fuerza que ofrece el ballet. Al ser de herencia mexicana, Por la Luz de la Luna es un ballet muy especial para ella, y siente que para cualquier bailarín, sin importar su origen, formar parte de esta producción es igualmente mágico, como dar un salto hacia atrás en el tiempo y la historia. Está encantada de compartir con su comunidad un ballet tan rico en cultura y profundamente conmovedor.
Interpretó este papel por primera vez en la segunda producción de SCD de Por la Luz de la Luna en 2017, después de un año retirada de la danza. Miss Isabel la convenció de que podía hacerlo, aunque en ese momento solo tomaba un par de clases de danza a la semana mientras estudiaba tiempo completo en el SRJC. Compartió que volver a interpretar este papel se sintió muy poderoso: “No tuve tanto tiempo para prepararme, pero me impresionó la disposición de mis guerreras para dar el 200% de su energía y sentí que realmente conectamos cada vez que nos reuníamos, a pesar del poco tiempo. Es un honor bailar con un equipo tan increíble.”
