Sioux Empire Livestock Show

Sioux Empire Livestock Show Since 1954, the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce has been sponsoring one of the best farm shows in the upper Midwest.

Over the years the Show has grown to include the best market and purebred livestock from across the region, as well as the latest in agricultural commercial exhibits. Sioux Falls rolls out the red carpet to welcome these visitors — estimated at more than 30,000 throughout the week. The annual Sioux Empire Livestock Show is a great way for South Dakota’s largest city to recognize the impact that agriculture continues to have in our community.

After thoughtful consideration, the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce has made the difficult decision to retire the Sioux Empire Livestock Show, with 2025 marking its final year. This decision was driven by long-term financial challenges, staffing and volunteer limitations and facility constraints—not by any lack of passion or support from our incredible agriculture community.

To our exhibitors, volunteers and attendees: thank you. Your dedication made this show a cherished tradition.

The Chamber's commitment to agriculture remains strong. From Ag Appreciation Day to our ongoing partnerships with commodity groups and producers, we’re actively exploring new, sustainable programming to continue celebrating and supporting the agriculture industry in meaningful ways.

We’re grateful for the memories—and even more hopeful for what’s ahead.

A Fond Farewell to a Valued Tradition: the Sioux Empire Purebred Cattle Show & Sale

After more than 70 years, the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce announces the retirement of the Sioux Empire Purebred Cattle Show & Sale.

In recent years, the industry has experienced a gradual shift, with fewer consignments and breed varieties represented at the Sioux Empire Purebred Cattle Show & Sale. Advancements in technology have enabled producers to market and sell genetics directly, reshaping how agriculture supporters can best support cattle producers in the region.

Sincere gratitude goes to the consignors, buyers and supporters who have been part of the Sioux Empire Purebred Cattle Show & Sale’s long and meaningful history. Their commitment has helped shape the cattle industry across the region and beyond. Special thanks to the most recent Supreme Row Sponsors — The First National Bank in Sioux Falls (gold), First Bank & Trust (silver), Cattle Business Weekly (bronze) and M.H. EBY (prize sponsor) — whose generous support has played a meaningful role.

As this chapter closes, there is deep appreciation for the past and optimism for the future. Previous consignors and buyers are wished continued success as they lead the way in livestock excellence. Their hard work and innovation will ensure a strong future for generations to come.

Although this marks the end of one tradition, the junior livestock shows and the Sale of Champions will continue as an essential part of ongoing efforts to support youth exhibitors, agriculture and the livestock industry. The format may evolve, but the commitment to celebrating and supporting agriculture remains unwavering. Exciting opportunities lie ahead, and the community is invited to take part in future events.

When we asked what advice Janae had to give to younger exhibitors this is what she had to say “My advice to younger exhibitors would be to not get caught up chasing the banners but enjoy the friendships and experiences along the way. I have met some of my best friends through the experience of showing livestock!” 🏆

Congratulations Janae!

All the recipients will be recognized at our Annual Agribusiness Awards Banquet, hosted by the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, on June 12th.

Today’s Exhibitor Scholarship Spotlight is Cara Schiltz from Estherville, IA.

When we asked why Cara chose to attend Iowa State University this is what she had to say "I decided to attend Iowa State University this fall because of its outstanding animal science and agriculture programs. Plus, since it’s in my home state, I will be able to save a significant amount of money compared to going out of state. I also chose Iowa State because of how close it was to home, so I would be able to visit my family often. From the first time I visited the college, I knew it was the place I wanted to further my education!"

When we asked what advice Cara had to give to those just starting to exhibit livestock, this is what she had to say “My advice for anyone just starting to show livestock is to give it your all—hard work truly pays off. Don’t hesitate to ask others for help along the way; I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and guidance I received from so many people. Also, try new things and don't be afraid to talk to people, those relationships and memories will last forever!" 🏆

Congratulations Cara!

Today’s Exhibitor Scholarship Spotlight is Ella Stiefvater from Salem, SD.

When we asked Ella, a current junior at South Dakota State University, studying Farm & Ranch Management, why she chose to attend SDSU this is what she had to say “I chose to attend South Dakota State University because of my family's long tradition as Jackrabbits and supporters but when I got to campus I realized that the agriculture community is what made me feel at home here. I'm so grateful for my professors, advisors and friends in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences who have helped me embrace new challenges and encourage me to get outside of my comfort zone.”

When we asked Ella what advice she had to give to younger exhibitors, this is what she had to say “My advice for younger exhibitors is to consider how what you do today is going to set you up for success tomorrow. As an alumni now of some of my favorite organizations like 4-H and FFA I'm thankful that I applied myself and tried so many new things while I could. I know it can be scary to apply for a leadership position or attend a camp but challenging ourselves, meeting new people and embracing a life of service are experiences I'm still benefiting from today.” 🏆

Congratulations Ella!
