We are honored to work with you on this!!
Six America 250 Grants have been awarded by MC DAR Foundation in the first round of applications. America 250 Grants are offered as a new, limited-time grant program awarded in amounts of up to $2,500 in matching funds for an event, project or patriotic program that celebrates the nation's 250th birthday.
The America 250 Grant is available to non-profit and publicly-funded organizations anywhere in South Dakota. (January 5, 2026 is the deadline for the next round of grant applications.)
1) Sioux Falls Fireworks and Community Events: $2,500 - "The World's Largest Declaration of Independence" - Creation of a large portable copy of the Declaration of Independence (8 feet wide by 10 feet tall) and a companion piece with the images of each signer and their name and information about them. It will be displayed at the free Fourth of July Fireworks show at the WH Lyon Fairgrounds. A custom portable display frame will allow it to be brought to schools in the area and to other local America 250 events.🇺🇸
2) Deadwood History, Inc.: $2500 - "Historic Mainstreet Celebration" - Purchase of red, white, and blue bunting for all building fronts along Deadwood's Historic Main Street. This display will occur from the last week of May 2026 through the first week of August 2026, in celebration of America's 250th anniversary and Deadwood's 150th. This project aims to revive the historical tradition of celebrating America.🇺🇸
3) National Music Museum, Vermillion: $2500 - “Of Thee I Sing: Origin, Heritage and Patriotism” - a special exhibition presented in celebration of America 250. Through musical instruments and their makers, the exhibition explores how Americans have expressed identity, belonging, and national pride across four centuries. Objects from the Museum’s collection—including rare and decorative instruments—invite visitors to reflect on how sound and symbolism connect us to our shared history. The funds will help develop an educational gallery guide, special presentations and concerts, and digital content to extend access beyond the Museum’s walls.🇺🇸
4) Garretson Economic Development: $2500 - "4th of July Spectacular" - This grant will help purchase fireworks for our 4th of July Spectacular. Garretson puts on one of the premier shows in South Dakota, showcasing our patriotism and love for our great nation. Visitors from across South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota make the trek to Garretson each year for our celebration.🇺🇸
5) South Dakota State Daughters of the American Revolution: $1515.74 - "Pierre Capitol Rotunda Christmas Tree" - SDSDAR was chosen to decorate the largest (45 ft) tree for the annual Christmas at the Capitol event this year. Ornaments combined the themes "America 250! America's Story" and "Songs of the Season." The grant funds are going to pay for part of the cost of creating big decorations to hang on the enormous tree. 🇺🇸
6) Spirit of the Prairie Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution - $2060.50 - "Celebrate America 250" - To fund a billboard sign to be placed just west of exit 212 on Interstate 90 and banners to be hung on the Missouri River bridge going into Pierre/Fort Pierre. These will depict the South Dakota America 250 Logo, Celebrate America 250, July 4, 2026. 🇺🇸
