A month later and we’re still in awe of the strength and stamina competitors displayed at the 39th Tour of the Gila. Pushing over mountains and through the Grant County mining district and agricultural areas, athletes at every level showcased the talent in American road racing today.

Just look at the race results that some of this year’s racers have received since, and you’ll see more proof that this is where up-and-coming cyclists get their big breaks.

The living, breathing world of American road racing: the 2026 Tour of the Gila presented by New Mexico True!
 
With a strong showing of teams in the UCI races, higher amateur participation than 2025, and some of the most robust fields we’ve seen in the citizen fun races, this edition of the race paints a picture of the sport that many begin as young children and never outgrow enjoyment of. 🚲 Tour of the Gila illustrates the passion that exists for competitive road cycling, the support that sustains racing opportunities, and the growing international community of people who race bikes!
 
Since 1987, southwest New Mexico has welcomed competitive cyclists at all levels to test their mettle on worldclass courses. It’s an honor to hold a stage race of this caliber and also a responsibility that we as organizers take seriously. 🗓️ With the action winding down, we’ll soon get to planning the 2027 Tour of the Gila!

Cycling careers are made at Tour of the Gila.

Current UCI women’s race leader Lauren Stephens and her team full of jersey holders showed up at the start line of the USA Cycling women’s Downtown Criterium Saturday. They shared about the opportunity they’re offering the woman who wins the amateur race at Tour of the Gila to be on the Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment devo team! 🚴🏿‍♀️

At least two of the current team members came through the ranks and showcased their talent at this stage race. Plus, one Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment devo rider is already competing in the 2026 amateur race. 🚲

“This is our first full year as Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment, and we’re building something special from the ground up,” Stephens said. “The devo team is an important part of that vision — a place to grow, learn, race, and be connected to the larger Aegis community as we all level up together.” 🙌

Another day of full gas racing! The action-packed day brought hundreds of people competing on their bikes to downtown Silver City, where even Race Director Jack Brennan took part in the Gila Regional Cancer Center Locks of Love hair-donation event midday and where people interacted with sponsors, local businesses, and of course the athletes whizzing around the challenging four-corner course. 🌀
 
Teammates worked for each other. Families of all walks cheered on their loved ones. Competitors truly started to feel the build-up of multiday racing in their legs. It was a Saturday to remember!
