Only about 18 more days until the 7th annual Shrewsbury Meeting House Concert Series swings into the summer with Swing Noire at 6 pm on Friday, June 12. We've been following these consummate and exciting musicians for a long time, and we finally have them here in the Hood!
Swing Noire invokes the energy of a swingin’ jazz club, transporting audiences back to the early days of jazz with their unique take on Hot Swing, making music that will entrance and surprise you. Great energy, soul, sophistication, and improvisation are the hallmarks of a Swing Noire performance. Their music channels the sounds of 1930’s Paris … that smoky, kinetic mix of jazz, blues, and Gypsy fire - with their own distinct edge.
Violinist David Gusakov, guitarist Rob McCuen, guitarist Jared Volpe, and double bassist Jim McCuen makes up Vermont's hottest Gypsy jazz quartet.

At 5:30 Sustainable Eats begins serving up their delicious dinner food and our very own Shrewsbury PTO is supplying us with sweets!
Admission is by Free Will contribution. Pay what you're able to but definitely join us! We have NO business sponsors and this amazing music only happens because of our generous and supportive listening audience! Thank YOU!

Our 2025 series (the 6th annual) will go down in our community's history book as one of the best....joyful, full of rhythm, danceable, great audiences and stellar musicians who are good people too. We thank you all for your financial support, camaraderie, good and bad jokes, and help with everything behind the scenes that makes this endeavor such a joy for us to work on each year.
We thank all those who came to Yankee Chank, whether you came inside or stayed around outside. Great turnout.
Many thanks to Yankee Chank for joining us for the last one on August 8. I was so busy dancing that I didn't get many photos.

Shall there be a 2026 series? If so, what bands "fit" into our scene here and who do you want to hear?

We're on!!Weather might be good, might not, so we've moved indoors. Delicious food and snacks are almost ready to go!

What a great evening last night as Bow, Krishna and Steve gave us their best music, humor and kindness. Really wonderful musicians and people. We all did our Sun Dance and it worked, The last of the sprinkles passed by at the band's set up time and we had a glorious evening outside with a sizable audience.
And speaking of our audience, we always say that you should come enjoy live music with us, even if you don't have $ to give. Though we do need the $ to support the musicians throughout our series, this was a sweet little deposit in the contribution bucket, and whoever you are....we thank you and hope you'll return on August 8 to hear Yankee Chank.

FRIDAY, JULY 18. 6 PM
ROD MACDONALD at the Shrewsbury Meeting House

Rod is a gifted singer-songwriter, creating songs of social commentary and humanity’s shared experiences. The good kind of tunes that get stuck in your head. A key player in NYC's folk revival, Rod performed at Greenwich Village hotspots like the Speakeasy and The Bottom Line, and co-founded the Greenwich Village Folk Festival. His songs have been covered by many artists, and he’s appeared on stage with a myriad of performers on a list that reads like the Who’s Who of American folk music. In addition to being a prolific song spinner, and with a background in the Army, law school, as a journalist, educator and novelist, Rod sees the world through many lenses, and his sweet tenor voice, harmonica and guitar help to tell the stories.

Please pay what you are able to with cash, check or Venmo contribution at the concerts. This is all about connecting with your community and having a good time with your neighbors. Bring a chair or blanket. If rainy, we move indoors.
For more info, call 802-558-2708, email [email protected] or follow us on Facebook: Shrewsbury Meeting House Concert Series.

This evening’s food options will be provided by Marble Valley Kitchen.
