We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend Peter Lyons. From the very beginning, Peter was a huge supporter of ShrevePride. Before our first event, and before anyone knew what Shreveport Q-Prom would become or if it would work at all, he was there to celebrate and support what we hoped to do in the community.

For those who knew him, Peter was the best of us. For those that didn't, here's a little about him.

Peter was the kind of person where every interaction was one of happiness. When something was going wrong, he would bring a joke or optimism β€” usually both. He showed up to help whether you thought you needed it or not. He made great coffee which was a longtime passion. He gave his time, his resources, his talent, and his ear when we needed it the most.

In addition, he has been a pillar of the gay community for many, many years and has been fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ community for longer than many of us have been alive.

When thinking about who Peter was, we also reflect on how he shaped us and, as a result, how he's shaped all of you. Because without Peter, ShrevePride wouldn't be what it is today. We were lucky to have known Peter. We were lucky to get to live in the same time and place as a great human being. Giving, loving, kind. That's Peter. We will miss him, and we know you all will too.

For now, we say goodbye. You are gone, but not forgotten.

We’re back! 🌈

At a time when many in the LGBTQ+ community are feeling the weight of today’s political climate, it’s more important than ever to come together. Q***r joy, pride, and community have always mattered, and they always will.

Pride has always been both a celebration and a reminder that progress is possible. Here in Shreveport, PACE has been bringing people together since our first Pride in the Park in 2014, creating a space for connection, visibility, and joy for all ages.

And we’re doing it again!

PACE Statement on Trump’s Racist Video Targeting the Obamas

Today’s racist video shared by President Donald Trump draws on long-standing racist tropes that have historically been used to attack Black communities. Its impact is particularly harmful, considering it comes from a position of political authority, lending it visibility and institutional weight. Research consistently shows that exposure to racism has real and measurable effects on mental health, including increased stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma-related symptoms. These harms disproportionately affect LGBTQ+ individuals who are also people of color. Racism and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric frequently intersect, creating layered forms of minority stress that place LGBTQ+ communities at increased risk for psychological distress and barriers to mental health care.

Leaders who share this kind of material amplify systemic oppression, normalize hatred, and endanger the mental health and safety of our communities. We stand unapologetically with Black communities and LGBTQ+ people of color. Addressing and challenging racism is not optional, it is a moral and public health imperative to protect the well-being, dignity, and rights of everyone in our community.
